What you’ll do

To improve daily operations, the Internal IT Operations Team Lead is essential to the upkeep, enhancement, and support of business systems. This is a hands-on team lead position that will be leading a team of 2 people at present which may grow in the next few years.


This role includes daily upkeep and support of internal apps and systems, as well as finding areas for improvement in existing processes and putting adjustments into place. The team lead for digital operations will also be in charge of managing and purchasing hardware and software and supporting some aspects of infrastructure.


Colleagues in Risk & Compliance and Process Improvement will be involved in the upgrades and modifications as the organisation strives for ISO accreditation which you will also play a part in.


  • Systems and Security Oversight: Administer critical system tasks, including user account management and access control. Implement robust cybersecurity protocols to safeguard digital assets using firewalls, antivirus, and encryption.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Deliver prompt IT support to resolve employee technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption and efficient problem-solving.
  • Network and Equipment Management: Maintain the company’s network infrastructure and manage all associated hardware, including office equipment and security systems.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Working with Risk & Compliance, formulate and update disaster recovery and business continuity strategies to mitigate potential IT system disruptions.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure IT practices meet compliance standards for regulations like GDPR.
  • Change Management and Collaboration: Oversee system modifications according to change management protocols and collaborate with various departments on joint initiatives.
  • Communication and Documentation: Communicate system changes to staff, provide training, and develop comprehensive system documentation and user guides.
  • Supplier and Licensing Management: Manage third-party supplier relationships, monitor Microsoft updates, and ensure efficient licensing management.
  • Project and Vendor Management: Direct IT projects from planning to execution, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets. Cultivate productive relationships with IT vendors, negotiating contracts and monitoring service quality.
  • Technology Advancement: Investigate emerging (primarily Microsoft) technologies, assess their applicability, and manage the deployment of selected innovations to enhance company operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluate and enhance the IT infrastructure’s efficiency, effectiveness, and security.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and develop junior team members within the IT team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous professional growth.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Stay informed about Microsoft service updates and undertake additional tasks as directed by the Operations Manager.


Who you are

  • Proficiency in administering Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to challenge requests when necessary.
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Experience in delivering IT projects.

Location

At Mercury, we believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration. That’s why we encourage our team members to join us at our Coleshill office 2 – 3 days per week. However, we’re all about flexibility, so we support remote work the remaining days if that’s your preference.
