Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT & Systems Lead to join our Operations team, enabled by our growth. You will be responsible for coordinating, planning, implementing and providing support across all aspects of Makers internal hardware and software.

You’ll take the lead on all aspects of IT Security including ownership of key company policies, ensuring processes are fit-for-purpose, documented and implemented, and ensuring Makers has the relevant accreditation.

More widely across the organisation, you’ll provide guidance and training and be the escalation point for teams to solve their tech requirements.

What you’ll be doing

System Management

  • Manage core internal IT systems (macOS) and subscriptions (e.g. GSuite, Slack)
  • Lead strategic reviews of our systems to ensure they enable efficient and effective delivery
  • Identify opportunities to streamline the systems used and ensure alignment across the organisation
  • Ensure licences and subscriptions are purchased in a timely and cost effective way
  • Improve user experience across the core internal systems e.g. through implementing Single Sign on across our HR and finance systems
  • Manage third-party relationships to ensure effective delivery e.g.Laptop MDM (Kandji), GSuite management (22D)
  • Manage internal and external access and removal from systems in line with agreed policies and process

Hardware Management

  • Ensure all staff, students and apprentices have appropriate laptops and IT equipment
  • Oversee distribution of appropriate laptops and IT equipment
  • Manage the inventory, keeping track of leased items and ensuring all loan policies are recorded and stored appropriately
  • Reset laptops and prepare for re-loaning including installation of all relevant software
  • Organise troubleshooting or repair when necessary for IT equipment
  • Oversee shipment and storage of hardware for new and existing staff
  • Monitor hardware performance and advise on the condition of hardware and when assets should be decommissioned/repaired
  • Remove all data from hardware that has been taken out of commission

IT Security

  • Draft, implement and maintain IT Security policies and processes to address legal requirements and regulation e.g. Account Management, BYOD, User Access etc.
  • Advise on appropriate IT Security certifications and ensure alignment of internal policies and processes with industry best practice methodologies and frameworks
  • Oversee, maintain and renew Cyber Essentials requirements
  • Manage and monitor the Mobile Device Management system
  • Ensure security of staff and student devices including anti-malware and firewalls
  • Own the Disaster Recovery Plan including backup of key data
  • Take part in incident management activities if a security event occurs
  • Escalate potential non-compliant areas of the business and advise on required action
  • Prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders including the Board
  • Ensure third-parties are operating in line with our policies and processes
  • Advise on and manage day-to-day data protection compliance

Support & Training

  • Be the 1st / 2nd line of escalation for IT support issues
  • Provide guidance and training for staff
  • Be the voice of good IT practices across Makers
  • Support teams with finding, implementing and/or integrating tools and solutions they need
  • Stay up-to-date with internal standards and business goals

For the IT & Systems Lead role, we’re looking for someone:

  • With previous experience of systems management, hardware management and IT security
  • Confident about the requirements of Cyber Essentials and able to lead on maintaining high standards across our IT security
  • With knowledge of general privacy and data protection laws including the GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and Cybersecurity
  • Able to prioritise internal user experience and passionate about providing a high level of service to our team through supporting their IT and systems needs
  • With the ability to apply a risk-based judgement to decision-making based on past experience, available information and the commercial context
  • Who is innovative in their ability to introduce new thinking and practices that help improve business performance across the organisation
  • Able to lead in your area of expertise, but also enjoy rolling your sleeves up and getting things done
  • Who enjoys making things work better, solving problems, and making it as easy as possible for people to navigate IT and systems
