In this role, you will be instrumental in preparing and managing laboratory setups for practical classes, ensuring students have everything they need for a successful learning experience. Whether it’s mixing reagents, clearing down labs post-experiment, or assisting with student queries, your contribution will be key to the smooth running of the department’s laboratory activities. The role holder will work with a team of technicians, line managed by a Senior Technician. They will have a good understanding of health and safety regulations and the environmental impacts of laboratory work.

Lab Technician Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and set up 60-seater labs for practical classes, including re-agent preparation for large-scale experiments.
  2. Assist students during lab practical assignments and provide technical support for health sciences or similar disciplines.
  3. Work under the guidance of a senior technician, offering support for lab activities and setups.
  4. Operate independently, managing day-to-day tasks and prioritising work based on a predefined work plan.
  5. Apply knowledge of pharmacy or microbiology in setting up and clearing down lab spaces efficiently.
  6. Report any accidents or incidents to the line manager/supervisor, ensuring a safe lab environment.

Lab Technician Key Skills:

  1. Knowledge of pharmacy or microbiology complemented by a strong understanding of health and safety protocols will be advantageous.
  2. Excellent communication skills, with a natural ability to put students at ease, encourage inquiry, and adapt to new situations.
  3. Highly punctual, with a willingness to learn and a curiosity that drives efficiency in setting up and clearing down lab environments.

If you have a strong administrative background with an interest or experience in Lab work, then this is a great opportunity to assist with the preparation and organisation of a teaching lab ahead of the next academic year. If you have the experience and skills required, please apply today!
