We have a great opportunity to join a world leading semiconductor research and test organisation and to lead the daily functions of a state-of-the-art cleanroom facility.



Roles Duties:

The Manager will aid in the management of laboratory facilities, monitoring and controlling their use, maintain the equipment and run specific suites of research equipment to support the internal and external customers in the successful execution of their projects.



To develop, implement and manage the staff, resources and facilities necessary to ensure the Research Technology Platform meets the appropriate legal requirements, standards of performance and welfare in all the services it delivers, whilst remaining internationally competitive.



Responsible for the organisation and management of the instrumentation and ensure that it delivers internationally competitive nano and micro fabrication resource.



To provide information and advice on service delivery and experimental design to all current and prospective users of the facility.



Co-ordinating and managing the daily activity of the instruments and users within the unit to ensure that the requirements and objectives of the researchers using the facility are met.



Develop standard operating procedures and provide the necessary level of training for user groups.



Develop and maintain robust systems for managing usage including capturing demand, rationing access (where appropriate), recording bookings and actual usage plus the collation of management information to inform charging and to monitor utilisation and performance.



Maintaining data to demonstrate the future pipeline of work including both existing and pending projects.



Develop a service level agreement that will meet the user group expectations through establishing key performance indicators which will measure staff performance.



Develop and maintain effective user relations both internal and external customers, acting as the key user or customer contact in meeting their service delivery requirements and technology expectations.



Provide advice and information for current and prospective users on the use of the technology and experimental design.



Conduct and oversee specified research work with the appropriate academic input, providing strategic direction, interpreting project aims and results.



Manage and optimise the effective use of the technology in terms of access, capacity, contractual commitments, managing collaborative relationships and customer/scientific conflict.


Ensure the relevant research community is engaged and maximises the optimal use of the technology through user training and local talks.



Ensure full compliance with relevant statutory health and safety regulations and that safe working practices are embedded within all activities through relevant guidance, risk assessment, COSHH, safe systems of work and the monitoring of health surveillance.



Co-ordinate, implement and monitor rigorous maintenance schedules that meet inspection criteria and legislative requirements and liaise with manufacturers and providers where necessary.



Contribute towards the strategic planning and future development of the Platform.



Provide appropriate financial estimates for the use of the technology for inclusion in grant applications, and ensuring all charges and costs are allocated correctly to end users.



Position Requirements

Degree level qualifications in either an engineering, physics, chemistry or materials science subject, or have equivalent experience.



Strong design and operational knowledge and experience of cleanroom facilities, with proven ability to work in a semiconductor laboratory environment for high purity semiconductor materials.



Experience in conducting a wide variety of experimental techniques and procedures.



Previous experience in the design, development, building, setting up, operation and/or repair of specialist processes/experiments to a detailed specification.



Experience and up to date knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, standards and procedures including hazardous substances (COSHH regulations).



IT literacy



Excellent interpersonal skills with relevant experience of working independently and as part of a team to build effective relationships with users and customers, internal and external to the organisation.



Strong time management, planning and organisational skills.



Proven track record in managing a team.



Desirable

Additional qualifications in Cleanroom Technology (proof of training on specific instruments)Technical expertise in nano/ microfabrication processing, with substantial experience in lithography, metal deposition, oxide deposition, wet chemical processing or plasma etching.
