Overview
Senior Accountant
Location: Sheffield 4 days pw, 1 day WFH
About the role:
This is a diverse role covering a portfolio of European and UK entities, responsible for the conversion of US GAAP TBs into locally-compliant TBs ready for audit and/or accounts preparation, and for the management of associated engagements with external partners.
The role will be a primary contact for external partners in each of Aptean’s operating regions, expected to build constructive and efficient relationships within each region. In managing the various international audits this role will need to liaise closely with the management accounts teams in the UK, US and Europe, and be comfortable and confident directing effort from these teams. With a large portfolio of entities, this post holder must balance a solid technical accounting knowledge alongside excellent project management skills in order to keep all engagements on track and all stakeholders up to date.
The role also offers an opportunity for building and maintaining intercompany recharge agreements. This would be a great role for a first or second time mover from practice, or anyone with a solid background in compliance and governance, looking to join an ambitious and energetic team based in Sheffield.
- Manage the external reporting requirements for a portfolio of UK and European entities, responsible for building relationships with external parties and co-ordinating the timetable of audit and accounts-prep engagements.
- Prepare journal entries and reconciliations to support the conversion of US GAAP management account TBs to locally-compliant TBs (with support from external in-region partners as necessary).
- Co-ordinate efforts from other teams including the management accounting teams, FP&A, Legal, Tax and the operational business in order to deliver quality information to external partners in a timely manner.
- Proactively identify opportunities for procedural improvements to improve efficiency and quality, and work to implement these to position the business for growth.
- Assist the Senior Management group with the roll-out of compliant intercompany cross-charge agreement that are fit for purpose in each region.
- Assist with the onboarding of regular new acquisitions, understanding the mapping of legacy local results into Aptean US GAAP systems, and planning for a successful transition.
About you:
- A secure knowledge of technical accounting principles backed by a recognized professional accountancy qualification.
- A disciplined self starter with a ‘can do’ attitude who is able to work within a matrix organization, with a high level of commitment and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent project management skills, with demonstrable experience of managing projects with multiple contributors.
- Experience in external audit – either as a practitioner or as a key player in the audit process in previous industry roles.
- Must have a critical eye for accuracy, data integrity, process issues and improvements.
- Excellent analytical skills including the ability to analyse large and complex data sets in order to summarise in a simple, effective way.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
- Any previous experience with intercompany cross-charging arrangements would be looked on favourably.
