Role: Lead Designer

Location: Wolverhampton (hybrid role, ability to commute into the office 2/3 days a week is essential)

We have partnered with the market leading manufacturer of clay and concrete building products in the UK. They are looking to hire a Lead Designer to join a new division of the company, focused on modern construction systems that will contribute to a more sustainable construction chain.

This is a critical role, you will help your clients build beautiful bespoke mid to high rise buildings, creating project proposals for bespoke patterned and brick faced GRC projects. This will require someone who is excited about being in a start up environment to help build processes and demonstrate ambitious appetite to drive results and performance.

You will be central to the customer experience, working closely with the project manager to deliver to both the external customer and internal stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design of project details under the guidance of a Project Manager
  • Ensure information is available for site set up in line with requirements, from job start to close.
  • Producing concept sketches, detailed designs, calculations and reports in accordance with project programmes
  • Liaising with other disciplines and ensuring the coordination of design and detailing work appropriate to the project
  • Review and evaluate design deliverables to advise on compliance with specifications and industry guidance/standards

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience of developing and presenting ideas to Architects, Clients and Contractors in meetings
  • Sketching – An ability to communicate ideas and develop concepts using hand sketches
  • Design/Detailing – competence in 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably Revit
  • Building Physics – understanding of the principles governing thermal performance, condensation risk, etc and how they are applied in facade design
  • Structure – understanding how the principles of structural mechanics are applied in facade design
  • Research and evaluate materials and system options to keep knowledge up-to-date
  • Knowledge of materials and installation techniques
