Lead Graphic and UI Artist

Dambuster Studios - creators of the TimeSplitters series alongside Second Sight, Haze, Homefront: The Revolution, and the number one smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting Lead Graphic and UI Artist opportunity to join our highly talented Art team.

As the Lead Graphic and UI Artist, you will be responsible for leading and managing a small team of talented artists to create captivating 2D artwork and user interfaces for our games. You will work closely with the art director, game designers, and developers to ensure a cohesive visual style that enhances gameplay and player engagement.

Role overview

  • Lead and mentor a team of Graphic, 2D and UI Artists, providing guidance, feedback, and support throughout the game development process.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to establish and maintain a consistent visual style that aligns with the game's overall vision and target audience.
  • Create high-quality 2D artwork, including character designs, environments, props, and user interfaces that enhance the gameplay experience.
  • Develop and refine the game's user interface, ensuring it is intuitive, visually appealing, and optimized for different platforms and resolutions.
  • Work closely with game designers and developers to implement and iterate on UI designs, providing technical and artistic expertise.
  • Manage and prioritize art tasks, ensuring the team meets project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and new techniques in Graphic, 2D and UI design, applying innovative ideas to enhance the game's visual impact.
  • Work options for this role – hybrid / fully studio based
    • If hybrid, days in the studio to be mutually agreed

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio showcasing your exceptional 2D artwork and UI designs for games.
  • Proven experience as a 2D/UI artist in the game industry, including at least 3 years in a leadership or senior position.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of composition, colour theory, and graphic design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of Graphic/UI best practices and the ability to create intuitive user interfaces.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to provide clear artistic direction, mentorship, and feedback to team members.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Passion for gaming and a keen eye for detail
  • At least 1+ shipped title in a Lead position and a strong Graphic and UI focussed portfolio.
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine and the according toolset.
  • Video Editing and Motion Graphics experience.
  • Traditional painting and drawing skills.
