Job summary An opportunity has arisen to join the Trust's newly established Complex Nutrition Support Team as the Lead Pharmacist for Nutrition and Hydration. This is to support the increasing complexity of the treatments that are provided within our hospitals in East Lancashire, as a Tertiary Centre for hepatobiliary surgery.This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to further develop their skills and specialise within nutrition. The Trust's Complex Nutrition Support Team consists of a Dietitian, Speech and Language Therapist, Pharmacist, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Surgical Registrar and Nutrition Consultant Lead.In addition to this specialist role you will also join the senior pharmacist team to support and drive the clinical pharmacy service and provide line management support to a team of junior pharmacists. Main duties of the job Refer to attached job description, in summary: Act as a role model in the field of nutrition and ensure the service is managed in accordance with the relevant professional, ethical, legal and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.Provide professional leadership in developing the pharmacy parenteral nutrition service in accordance with the objectives set by the complex NST.To participate in hospital ward-based "nutrition rounds" with the Nutrition Support Team members and provide specialist clinical knowledge with regard to parenteral nutrition and drug-nutrient interactions.To provide a comprehensive and effective clinical pharmacy support to patients (adult, paediatric and neonatal) requiring parenteral nutrition within the Trust, using highly developed specialist knowledge and skills.To collaborate with the senior aseptic pharmacist and act as a link between clinical and aseptic pharmacy services, to ensure a joined up approach to parenteral nutrition supply.To provide expert advice to clinicians, patients and carers regarding the provision of nutritional support to enable informed decisions based on nutritional assessment and principles of medicines optimisationTo participate in working groups for nutrition as required, including the Trust's Nutrition and Hydration Group. About us Whilst being spread across sites and having a large number of staff we are a friendly and inclusive pharmacy team.We have a large cohort of Non-Medical Prescribers and havestrong links with our local universities with three teacher practitioners.We were an early-adopter site for the RPS's Transfer of Care initiative which led to the creation of the world's first fully integrated hospital to community pharmacy e-referral system:Refer-to-Pharmacy.We have a Medicines Support team, Homecare team and specialist pharmacists within the Dermatology, Rheumatology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology directorates providing out-patient clinics. We have a dedicated AMU team offering an extended hours service.East Lancashire Hospitals Trust went live with an Electronic Prescribing System (ePR) in June 2023.
