Lead Pharmacy Technician

Wimbledon, London | Pharmacy | Permanent | Full time

37.5 hours per week

We are seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, and highly motivated Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team at Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital. Working closely with our Pharmacy Manager, as a Lead Pharmacy Technician your key responsibilities will be:


1. Leadership and Team Management:

Supervise and lead a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants, providing guidance, support, and training as necessary.

Coordinate staff schedules and assignments to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow within the pharmacy department.

Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development among staff members.


2. Dispensing and Distribution:

Oversee the accurate dispensing and distribution of medications in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.

Monitor medication inventory levels across the hospital, ordering supplies as needed and maintaining appropriate stock levels to meet patient demand.


3. Quality Governance and Compliance:

Implement and maintain quality governance procedures to ensure the safety, efficacy, and integrity of pharmaceutical products and services.

Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including those set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and other regulatory bodies.

Participate in internal and external audits, addressing any findings or deficiencies and implementing corrective actions as needed.


4. Patient Care and Counselling:

Provide medication counselling and education to patients, addressing questions, concerns, and instructions related to their prescriptions.

Optimise medication therapy and promote patient safety and well-being.

Resolve medication-related issues and discrepancies, working closely with healthcare teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.


5. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

Identify opportunities for process improvement within the pharmacy department, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.

Actively participate in departmental meetings, committees, and projects aimed at improving patient care, safety, and satisfaction.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Will have NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Technician or equivalent
  • Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a pharmacy setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and confidentiality.
