Lead Front End Engineer 

London based role (please only apply if able to work in this location at least 1 day per week).

What will I be responsible for ?

As a Lead Software Engineer for Commercial Lending Origination, as well as creating, building, supporting and improving our software, you'll also be responsible for guiding and leading our software engineers to collaborate with Product and other Engineering teams and colleagues to achieve this . As an experienced engineer you'll champion software engineering practices that align with architectural and group strategies and coach/mentor your team to deliver a quality product.

Your contribution will be instrumental to our strategy where we are making it simpler, safer, faster and more sustainable for clients to borrow through their channel of choice . Creating 'whenever, wherever' optionality through on and off bank routes . One of our main challenges is to digitise our client and colleague experience and you’ll play a key part in achieving that.

Our Software Engineers should have skills and experience that enable them to design and create innovative solutions in an increasingly digital world. Understanding how modern software applications are built and delivered is key . We employ a left-shift paradigm and have a passion for quality over all else.

Encouraging the right culture is key and you’ll embrace a “Fail Fast, Learn Faster” approach. Experimenting new ways of engineering and adopting a test and learn approach, with a focus on learning and continuous improvement.

Essential skills & experience:

  • Strong experience of both React and Java/NodeJS (spring or other framework) and microservices architecture.

  • Sound experience in using and adopting a wide range of engineering practices and tools including feature team or component team delivery across the full software development lifecycle.

  • Experience of agile Development practices, DevOps pipelines, continuous integration / deployment and Test Automation, GHE source code management and the E2E software development lifecycle.

  • A proven background in Software Engineering, producing quality artefacts.

  • Good knowledge of Javascript and SQL/RDBMS/NoSQL.

  • Experience developing with APIs.

  • A good level of technical maturity and be familiar with cloud-based tech with a firm grasp of emerging technologies.

  • Experience of leading, coaching and developing engineering colleagues in a line management capacity .

Desirable skills & experience 

  • Experience in cloud based development, namely containers, container orchestration and associated development/design patterns.

  • Experience of Azure, Google or AWS Cloud platforms.

  • Knowledge of Typescript.

  • Experience of BDD.
