Role: Legal Assistant (Personal Injury)

Office Location: Howells Solicitors,Fitzalan House, Fitzalan Road, CF24 0EL

Job Type: Permanent / Full Time

Working Hours: Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week)

This is an exciting role, providing crucial support to our fee earners with the management of Personal Injury cases.


What you'll be responsible for


  • Supporting our fee earners with the management of their caseload of personal injury cases.
  • Drafting Claim Notification Forms.
  • Drafting variety of court documents including witness statements.
  • Drafting instructions to counsel and medical experts.
  • Drafting Schedules of Loss and court documents.
  • Reviewing medical evidence.
  • Preparing bundles.
  • Liaising with clients where necessary.
  • Conducting legal research.
  • Assessing and advising on evidence, liability, and quantum.
  • Working efficiently, meeting deadlines, and prioritising tasks.
  • Maintaining strong file management skills.
  • Collaborating with the team to achieve unit objectives.


What we're looking for:


  • You will be a personal injury paralegal or legal assistant with experience in assisting or handling your own litigated caseload. Multi-track experience is advantageous as the caseload will be truly varied.
  • You will demonstrate experience of running cases through a low value claims portal.
  • Knowledge of personal injury case handling is essential.
  • Familiarity with CPR, rules on evidence, litigation process, and funding as applicable.
  • Ability to assess and advise on evidence, causation, liability, and quantum.
  • Ability to adapt to change and be respectful of internal and external customers’ needs and priorities.
  • Strong ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and prioritise tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Experience in handling Fast Track claims, including the litigation process.
  • Proven ability in numeracy and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Willing to learn.
