Job Description
A leading global reinsurance firm is seeking a skilled Legal Counsel to join its Reinsurance Advisory team in the EMEA region. This role focuses on providing legal support to reinsurance business units across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, ensuring the successful execution of business initiatives while maintaining compliance with external and internal regulations.
Role Overview:
As a Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of legal documents. You will provide expert advice on local regulatory matters, manage legal aspects of strategic initiatives, and contribute to the development of policies and processes. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring legal trends, preparing reports, and optimizing the engagement with external legal counsel. This position requires adaptability to different legal systems and cultures across a broad geographical scope.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents.
Advise on regulatory and compliance matters, including data protection and market conduct.
Manage legal aspects of projects within the EMEA region.
Develop and improve legal templates, policies, and processes.
Monitor legal developments and conduct training sessions.
Coordinate with and optimize the use of external legal counsel.
Qualifications:
Fully qualified lawyer (bar exam) in the UK or any EU jurisdiction.
Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, ideally in the (re)insurance sector.
Strong experience in reinsurance law, regulatory matters, and cross-border legal issues.
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
Fluency in English; additional languages such as French, Italian, Arabic, or Spanish are a plus.
