Location: Swissport Head Office, Runcorn

Reporting to: Head of Legal UK & Ireland

JOB SUMMARY

Swissport is the world’s largest provider of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry. The Head of Legal for UK & Ireland (UKI) is looking for a lawyer to join the newly established legal department.

Reporting into Head of Legal UK&I, you will be involved in providing general and practical legal advice to the business including drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and upholding the high levels of regulatory compliance within the business. You will assist in the management of an exciting and unique aviation property portfolio at 27 UK & Ireland Airport locations. The portfolio comprises of an interesting and diverse range of on and off airport operational facilities which include Airport lounges and Cargo warehouses as well as a range of on airport functions ranging from industrial units to Airline ticket desks.

The scope of the position will be broad, and you will act as a true business partner with the Head of Legal in order to deliver sound legal support and advice to the UK&I business region. You will enable the business to deliver on its objectives and to minimise the risk, whilst remaining commercially minded and solutions focused.

Job Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are associated with this job role:

  • review, and negotiation of commercial Standard Ground Handling Agreements and other commercial agreements, including NDAs.
  • Corporate Governance of all regional subsidiaries.
  • practical commercial legal advise to the business on a wide range of areas including compliance with regulatory requirements, anti-compeittion laws, anti bribery and corruption laws.
  • practical commercial legal advice on a wide range of commercial property issues including interpreting leases, advising on disputes, progressing lease renewals and surrenders, licences, rent review memoranda and submitting Stamp Duty Land Tax returns and completing registrations. Liaise with & instruct external surveyors. Title Checks & SDLT submissions.
  • maintain an up to date database of all property agreements entered into by UKI business and operating licences.
  • compliance with Group Directives and Delegation of Authority sign off process across the business.
  • training to the organisation with regard to contractual matters and compliance.
  • travel to airports within UK&I.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Solicitor/Barrister with between 5-7 years PQE
  • Experience in-house working desirable
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Law or other relevant field is desirable
  • Aviation experience is advantageous
  • Business acumen
  • Experience with commercial transactions, property transactions and corporate governance
  • Self starter with the ability to manage a significant number of projects simultaneously and to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced environment while always maintaining the highest level of integrity
  • Proven team player with the ability to build consenses with diverse stakeholders and third parties and form strong collaborative working relationships with internal clients
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Package with skilled user of Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Office 365 is desirable
  • Requirement to be present in the Head Office in Runcorn a minimum of 3 times per week.
