About the role

PwC UK is seeking an experienced Commercial lawyer (with technology experience) to work in its Office of General Counsel commercial team, to support the continued growth of our UK business. The maternity leave cover will be for 12 months starting from mid/end September.

Our UK in-house legal team of nearly 50 lawyers is an experienced (20 in the commercial team), well established and supportive group of professionals, who are highly regarded by and well networked to the business, and who have strong relationships with a wide range of senior professionals in the organisation, including at Executive Board level.

Our commercial team is split between two hubs, one in London and the other in Birmingham. This role can be based in either location. Our team works in a hybrid way, splitting time between the office, home and client sites.

What your days will look like

The work is demanding, the deals are varied, and no day will be the same. You will be able to assimilate information quickly, get to the heart of a deal and advise the business not just on the legal and commercial aspects of any given deal, but on the project as a whole. You will work closely with our bid teams and our engagement delivery teams, you will have direct access to our clients and their legal teams and you will act as the face of PwC in transactions. The existing commercial team is highly valued by the business and we are very much seen as business enablers.

This role is for you if:

  • Detailed knowledge of English Law, must possess at least 6 years' PQE (or equivalent) in a commercial team Post Qualification Experience (or an international equivalent).
  • You will have experience in providing commercial legal advice, either within an in-house environment or within law firms, ideally working with clients similar to PwC or its competitors. You will also have excellent communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships and the capability to determine strategy and influence negotiations in an innovative business environment.
  • Have broad experience of advising on technology implementation contracts and/or managed service, outsourcing and other commercial and IT related (software licences and SaaS) contracts and Strong drafting skills;
  • Ability to handle complex negotiations using sound judgement to ensure that the firm's best interests are served;
  • Ability to appreciate the wider reputational, commercial and business aspects of each deal;
  • Sound judgement and well developed influencing skills, together with the confidence to work with senior management across the business; and ability to build strong relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business.
