We connect suppliers of heavy building materials with the professional craftsmen who build, renovate, and maintain the cities of tomorrow.What will I be doing?The position is an opportunity for a dynamic and professional in-house counsel or commercially orientated senior private practice lawyer with solid legal management experience to become a proactive, expert and strategic partner to SG Building Distribution.Some key responsibilities will includeAct as the senior legal advisor to the CEO, management team and functional leaders.

The Legal Director provides analysis, counsel and guidance on the implications and risks of strategic and operating plans and decisions.

This role is expected to engage closely with business decision-making and strategic planning for the company and to support in the implementation of strategy, including through acquisitions, joint ventures or lines of business with new business models.

Further, in this role you will monitor and advise on emerging trends in an evolving legal, regulatory, business and consumer environment in particular as the UK has left the EU; and to "see around corners" for the CEO and the executive team, based on strong relationships of trust of confidence.The Legal Director will be responsible for establishing the priorities, culture and professional standards of the legal function.

You will assure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, timely legal services and support.

This role will have the accountability for keeping the Company's legal policies and strategies up to date (in coordination with the Group General Counsel); and responsibly managing the Company's internal and external costs.With oversight responsibility in the UK for Compliance-related activities, the Legal Director also plays an important role in defining and safeguarding the Company's core values.

These activities include diligent work with policies and training materials, monitoring and enforcing adherence to the policies and reporting to management on progress.This role will work closely with the CEO and the management team to ensure a culture of integrity and compliance across the organization while fostering the growth and success of the business.What are we looking for?The successful candidate will have general legal experience, ideally in a complex multi-site B2B service environment or have significant experience advising clients with similar business models.

They will need to have a strong legal background and to have a well-developed commercial acumen combined with business operations know-how.Right level of academic background with a minimum of 10 + years PQE.Experienced adviser on a broad range of legal matters including corporate, commercial and competition law.Ability to take on the Company Secretarial role for SG Building Distribution and its subsidiaries and to manage board meetings for such entities.Successful experience as an in-house advisor to high-level business executives.Strong influencing, negotiation and persuasion skills, able to balance legal and commercial requirements; comfortable with executing on calculated risk.Experience of competition law and corporate governance.Comfortable working in a matrix structure.Genuine interest in the broader commercial context, thinks about the business strategically and interested to understand and learn what others do in the market.Experience within the area of property, leases, etc.
