Main duties of the job

The Anaesthetics Department provides a comprehensive elective and emergency service for a wide range of surgical specialties including, but not limited to, liver and renal transplantation, hepatobiliary cancer, complex vascular including aortic surgery, renal cancer, sarcoma, plastics, endocrine, breast, urology and colorectal surgery. The Royal Free site provides high quality perioperative care over 19 operating theatres, interventional radiology and endoscopy suites, labour ward and pre-operative assessment clinics.

It is an exciting time at the Royal Free with the recent opening of a dedicated Enhanced Postoperative Integrated Care (EPIC) unit to complement the existing Intensive Care Unit facility by providing the highest quality and innovative perioperative care to our unique complex major surgical population.

We are located in an area with excellent facilities and Hampstead Heath close by. There are many local coffee shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants with an impressive high street and direct access to central London. As a team we recognise that a work/life balance is vital, and a thriving social life is enjoyed amongst our staff. There will be an opportunity for the post holder to develop a specific area of self-directed interest which compliments the other consultants.

  • Full registration with the GMC with licence to practise
  • FRCA or equivalent Diploma
  • CCT (or equivalent) with entry on Specialist Register for Anaesthesia on or within six months of the anticipated date of interview

Clinical Skills, training and experience

  • Completion (or equivalent) of appropriate higher units of training to fulfil all requirements of job description
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care in wider scope of anaesthetic practice
  • ATLS/APLS
