Job summary We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. There are currently 14 Consultant Neuroradiologists working within the Department of Neuroradiology, which is part of the wider Directorate of Neurosciences which houses Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology and the national highly specialised Mitochondrial Medicine Service, providing a comprehensive, specialist service to a population of approximately million across the North East and Cumbria. Based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle City Centre, this role is advertised as a full time job with on-call, but we are happy to consider applicants wishing to work less than full time with a pro rata share of the on-call. This is advertised as a 12 month locum job but there may be the opportunity for a substantive post in the future Main duties of the job Clinical: Participate in departmental work in providing neuroradiology services to our patients. Provide diagnostic neuroradiology services. Contribute to the spinal intervention service (desirable but not essential) Contribute to departmental MDT delivery (ideally including adult neuro-oncology MDTs but other special interests will be considered) Contribute to the departmental attending system. The post-holder will contribute to the daytime diagnostic neuroradiology service and take a share of the diagnostic neuroradiology on call rota. If desired, they may also contribute to the spinal intervention service. A special interest in adult neuro-oncology would be ideal though not essential. The Department of Neuroradiology in Newcastle is one of the foremost in the country with a high national profile, active research involvement and is renowned for clinical excellence. The department provides a diagnostic neuroradiology, spinal interventional and vascular neuro-interventional service to the patients of the region. We are core members of numerous specialist MDTs including neuro-oncology (adult & paediatric), stereotactic radiosurgery, neuro-ophthalmology, skull-base, epilepsy, paediatric neurology, stroke and infectious diseases. The department provides a spinal intervention service that includes nerve root injections, disc biopsies and myelograms The department is currently in the process of implementing a twenty-four hour mechanical thrombectomy service for the North-East of England. Clinical Neurosciences in Newcastle is an integrated directorate with excellent surgical and medical facilities. Person Specification Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills Essential MBBS or other recognised equivalent medical qualification. FRCR or a Postgraduate qualification of similar seniority. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register, (or for UK trainees entry expected within 6 months from the date of the AAC). [Exceptional candidates who have applied for the Specialist Register and have an expectation of inclusion within the next 6 months may be considered.] Desirable MD, PhD or equivalent in relevant field Clinical Experience Essential At least 5 years' training in clinical radiology including two years' training in neuroradiology at the time of appointment (please note these training requirements are essential) Ability to offer an expert neuroradiology opinion. Desirable Experience of a (sub)specialist fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology. Ability to undertake CT and fluoroscopy guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Desirable Experience of Clinical Leadership Teaching Essential Experience of supervising junior medical staff in the clinical setting. Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills.
