Northern Trust Asset Management is a trillion dollar investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives. 

Based in London, the Manager Role for the Investment Performance and Attribution team will be responsible for calculating performance, supporting performance measurement tasks, generating attribution analysis and managing a team of performance SMEs based in London. 

This role will collaborating with the global performance and attribution team, and regional leadership to deliver high quality and timely data to support business requirements. The scope of responsibilities will include deliver high quality and timely investment performance outcome and attribution results for use by NTAM portfolio managers, client facing teams and adherence with regulatory requirements.

The role will also involve identifying, solutioning, and championing digital and scale creation initiatives to optimize current processes and enhance the team’s effective responsiveness to add value to our business objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Act as a subject matter expert on investment performance analytics and measurement, drive excellence and lead a SME team across this practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a key subject matter expert and drive best practices for the region regarding performance and analytics related content, for both internal and external constituents, across portfolios, benchmarks, peer data and GIPS composites;
  • Responsible for content, quality, timeliness of performance measurement and attribution deliverables for the region, this includes providing comprehensive, in-depth consultation and leadership to team and cross-functional partners, to add-value to business development and fostering growth in client relationships;
  • Provide guidance and support to the team’s day-to-day activities, monitor workload distribution and utilizing resources judiciously to deliver results and maintain high level of satisfaction from our stakeholders;
  • Ensure governance and oversight of data processes used to calculate the values, thus facilitating compliance with established thresholds for accuracy and timeliness. Maintaining up-to date procedural documentations and engage with audits and risk management for regular reviews;
  • Assess service level agreements and suggest improvements to create a robust governance and control framework to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate investment performance outcome;
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including technology to assess the current state and architect the future state operating models, processes, and capabilities to successfully support evolving business needs;
  • Stay informed of regulatory and industry requirements that may impact data elements required for presentation to clients and prospects. Examples are The European Commission, Financial Conduct Authority, UK’s Competition and Markets Authority;
  • Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing processes to prevent and remediate risk;
  • Plan, organize, direct and support performance/attribution related program plans and projects; evaluate results and recommend policies, procedures, and actions to achieve an appropriate control environment for NTAM;
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with all internal and external service providers;
  •  Promote corporate values including integrity.

Skills / Knowledge:

  • A College / University degree or relevant professional qualification (i.e. CFA and/or CIPM designation).
  • At least 7-10 years of work experience in the investment management industry, with a demonstrated track record within the performance and analytics space at a mid-to-large investment management firm.
  • A proven track record as people manager.
  • Proficiency with investment products, analytic tools and systems, technology and databases.
  • Thorough understanding of the Investment Management industry and financial services;
  •  In-depth understanding of the investment management business, performance measurement methodology, performance analytics, and accounting principles;
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills, able to develop goals at functional levels and help set meaningful goals for team members. Motivate and energize staff to achieve their personal best;
  • Experience utilizing and implementing major performance measurement platforms and analytics systems;
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience in driving digital and automation-driven transformation to generate efficiencies and scalability.
  • Global outlook with sensitivity and awareness of social and cultural differences.
  • Strong situational awareness, communication skills and decision making capabilities.
  • Strong consultative skills ranging from gathering market and competitor insights, strategy development, influencing, facilitation and consensus building.
