Severn Trent Services (STS) is part of Severn Trent PLC. The STS organisation is a portfolio of commercial business units delivering a variety of services to clients across the whole of the UK.

These include.

  • Commercial water and wastewater services to municipal and industrial clients in the UK;
  • Design, build and operation of water and waste water treatment facilities and networks to the UK Ministry of Defence (‘MOD’);
  • Water hygiene and legionella services across a number of contracts
  • Services to potential homebuyers, developers and property owners e.g. flood risk or environmental searches

The portfolio has combined annual revenues of c£88m and delivers c£19m operating profit. There are c330 employees in multiple locations across the UK.

Everything you need to know

We’re looking for someone to lead Severn Trent Services and have overall responsibility for the business performance, ensuring we deliver an excellent offer and service to our customers, manage the profit and loss (p&l) for each business and the portfolio as a whole, shape and lead the business strategy, focus on priorities and achieve stretching targets.

You’ll need to lead and balance the requirements and key activities of each individual business units to manage and improve their financial and operational performance, whilst ensuring each business is aligned to the broader company objectives.

As a commercial business, growth is a key focus and the role holder will formulate and deliver growth plans for each business unit and the portfolio whilst managing risk to an appropriate level.

Finally you’ll need to lead, motivate and develop the team by setting clear goals and inspiring others to establish a positive, driven, continuous improvement and results focused customer-led culture;

What you’ll bring to the role

We’re looking for someone with experience of managing a stand-alone P&L unit/business with experience working within a Business-to-Business environment; building commercial relationships with large public and private sector customers.

You don’t need specific water industry experience although it’s likely you’ll come from a large multisite operational business that operates in a similar commercial, competitive environment.

As a leader you will be used to inspiring teams, utilising their knowledge and helping them put in place the processes and structure needed to deliver a step change in performance.

You’ll have strong financial and commercial experience with the proven ability to negotiate the best outcomes of complex situation and delivering savings through effectively structuring contracts and contract management approaches. Ability to understand both the strategic and financial value of propositions.

Finally, you’ll need to meet the security clearance requirements of the Ministry of Defence.
