Job Title: Manufacturing Explosives Technician

Location: Glasgow

Role: Full Time

Hours: 4 day week Monday-Thursday / 37 hours per week

Due to demand we’re looking for an experienced Explosives Technician to join our Optronics and Missile Electronics [OME] business unit in Glasgow. With good experience in explosives processing, handling and safety you will be carrying out various assembly and testing tasks within the Explosives Lab following work instructions and engineering drawings where required.

The roles are based out of our Glasgow manufacturing site. You will work a 4 day week Monday to Thursday and work 9.25 hours per day. 

What you’ll do….

Comply with legislative stipulations and organisational health, safety, environmental policy i.e. Explosives Regulations 2014 Contribute to activities to prevent fire and explosions. Preparing and setting up an explosives processing lab and equipment. Preparing explosives for processing and storage tasks in line with work instructions and operating procedures. Undertaking routine disposals of explosives

What you’ll need…….

  • Excellent knowledge of the safe systems of work in regard to explosives.
  • Good working knowledge of processing and handling of all types of explosives.
  • Understand and interpret work instruction sheets (W.I.S.)
  • Experience in explosives/weapons testing.
  • Ability to understand standard explosives safety procedures i.e. HAPTM checks, environmental considerations.
  • Ability to perform complex mechanical assembly of products in an explosives environment.
  • Experience building electronic assemblies.
  • The ability to interpret drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Reasonable level of I.T. literacy.
  • IPC (J-STD) qualified not essential but highly desirable
  • Eligible to obtain full SC clearance.
  • To perform complex Manufacturing operations in accordance with the associated documentation provided to the quality standards expected in a timely and professional manner.
  • To adhere to the defined Company processes when carrying out all tasks
  • Performs self-assessment and approval of products
  • To input and support any continuous improvement actions being worked on within Industry
  • To be able to detect any fault or non-compliance and if necessary raise the alert. In addition when able should contribute to diagnostics and the finding of the cause/root analysis
  • To manage and record build configuration of product
  • To use the company tools (ERP, Palma etc.) when carrying out product assembly tasks
  • Participating in the improvement of the explosives processing area and processes
  • Undertaking activities to ensure free from explosives (FFE) certification.
  • Participating in the generation, review or evaluation of Explosives standard operating procedures.
