Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing the Manufacturing Quality Manager will be responsible for developing Quality standards, procedures, and specifications for the Company’s offsite manufacturing facility at Ferguson Drive, Lisburn and at project sites throughout the UK.

The Manufacturing Quality Manager will work closely with internal and external stakeholders:

  • to ensure optimal quality of our product at all times
  • to develop effective and efficient interfaces between factory and site

The Manufacturing Quality Manager will collaborate with the wider McAvoy team to ensure that the relevant company KPIs are met or exceeded.

The Manufacturing Quality Manager must possess sound professional credentials, have a proven track record in a relevant manufacturing-based quality role and a strong desire to pursue excellence.

Role Description

  • Manage all aspects of the quality activity in the factory, with the supply chain (including sub-contractors) and on-site during installation and handover. Regularly consult with the wider management team to ensure quality is communicated business wide.
  • Champion and lead the Quality standards of each project, working with the designated Contracts Director/Manager, Preconstruction Director/Manager and Head of Design/Design Manager. This will include effective liaison with internal stakeholders including design management, manufacturing management, preconstruction management, contract delivery teams, logistics management and the project commercial team.
  • Continuously develop processes, procedures and practices using proven quality methodology to ensure quality is optimised.
  • Approach problem solving with root cause solutions to permanently embed improvements.
  • Understand and evaluate the true cost of not meeting quality standards within the group, proactively demonstrate findings and educate all stakeholders internally and externally what the true cost of quality is.
  • Effectively engage with the workforce and supply chains to engender a strong commitment to improve quality outcomes.
  • Define and implement in-process quality checks and Quality related documentation.
  • Use a systematic approach to develop and implement standard quality methods & practices throughout the factory and on site through to project completion.
  • Manage all non- conformances, corrective and preventative action plans internally and with customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure products consistently meet specifications and ensure checks and systems are in place to record compliance.
  • Ensure customer (internal and external) satisfaction and service levels are the focus of continuous improvement.
  • Support work winning teams and attend customer meetings when necessary.
  • Work closely with Building Services (MEPS) team to ensure that the building services elements are fully integrated into the manufacturing process.
  • Develop an ECR/ECO procedure to accurately capture, evaluate and execute project changes.
  • Play a pivotal role in driving forward the Company’s ESG agenda.

This role description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Manufacturing Quality Manager. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder at regular intervals.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a quality role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Appropriate third level education.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and team working skills.
  • Knowledge of and operation of quality systems in manufacturing.
  • Ability to put forward innovative ideas and solutions with appropriate supporting data.
  • Strong literary and IT skills for formal report writing, customer and other internal and external presentations.
  • Ability to travel within the UK and occasionally Europe.
  • Knowledge of and operation of quality systems within construction.
  • Understanding of/experience of construction sites.
  • Experience in volumetric modular manufacturing.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring people within the context of a companywide talent development programme.
  • Experience using tools and principles such as Cpk, MSA, Cause & Effect, Pareto, Process Mapping, Lean, PFMEA, Control Plans, Sampling Plans, APQP, PPAP.
  • Experience of sign off/commissioning/hand over of delivered product.
  • Experience of process mapping/value stream mapping.

Qualifications & Training

  • Strong IT skills.
    Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • knowledge and experience of Lean Six Sigma tools/ techniques including SPC, FMEA, Standard Operations, Lean, Sigma Logic, Problem Solving Documents etc.
  • A degree in a science, engineering or a similar field would be preferable with previous experience within a quality, process, or technical role.
  • An understanding of International AS9100 and other Quality systems standards is preferable.
  • Audit trained would also be advantageous.
  • Leadership Skills: Communicates and gains team commitment to a vision, able to motivate colleagues and others and provide direction and vision.

  • Effective Communication Skills: Able to adapt communication to an audience, create and deliver detailed written documents and presentations. Able to maintain and manage communication links with a variety of stakeholders. Presents a professional image and promotes McAvoy brand.
