Market Risk Manager – Energy Trading We are a prominent global player in energy trading, focusing on power, gas, LNG, and energy attributes. Our expertise lies in connecting producers, suppliers, and off-takers within wholesale energy markets. We provide top-tier route-to-market services, utilizing both physical and financial settlement options. At our London office, which is home to over 250 skilled energy professionals, we collaborate with a global team of 800 colleagues representing over 50 nationalities across 8 locations. This role is based in our central London office, with a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office and occasional international travel to our other locations. Key Responsibilities: As a Market Risk Manager, you will have a vital role in monitoring and managing risk, ensuring continuous improvement as we expand into a multi-location trading model. Reporting to the Head of Market Risk, you’ll work closely with front office teams and other business units. Your responsibilities will include: Overseeing market risk for one of the energy trading desks, focusing on gas, power, and renewables. Managing and mentoring one or two junior team members, building a strong risk management culture within the team and on the trading floor. Maintaining thorough knowledge of trading portfolios while staying informed on market trends and their potential risks. Conducting quantitative analyses of new deals, identifying risks through simulation-based modeling techniques. Working with various business units to create new business frameworks and integrating these into current policies and systems. Enhancing risk management processes, including Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, and risk-adjusted return evaluations. Assisting with the digitization and modernization of the Market Risk processes. What We’re Looking For: A deep understanding of physical and financial energy markets, particularly in gas and power trading. Expertise in risk management practices such as VaR, stress testing, and option pricing. Previous experience managing and guiding junior team members. Strong business acumen with the ability to provide informed strategic advice to senior leadership and trading desks. Familiarity with trading platforms like Endur and EOS, along with proficiency in Power BI, Python, and SQL. Excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and exceptional problem-solving capabilities.
