Job Function

The Marketing and Communications Director will support the Executive Committee (ExCom), the Workstreams and the Taskforces in delivery of all marketing and communications activity. Specifically, this will include developing and leading delivery of the communications plans, designing and leading major campaigns, working with media and key events, producing the annual report and ensuring that the OGCI brand and story is told effectively to a wide range of stakeholders and audiences.
This position will include support for the related outreach activities of our senior executives, for workstreams, across press, social media and events, as well as close work with external advisors and suppliers.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Developing and updating the OGCI narrative, ensuring its integration across all activity, e.g. digital platforms, executive presentations, stakeholder engagement and media activities.
  • Management of all external communications, including announcements and campaigns.
  • Support in planning and executing OGCI events, as well as sourcing and facilitating media, speaking, partnerships and other engagement opportunities.
  • Facilitation and development of internal communications.
  • Oversee the production of digital and graphic materials.
Main Responsibility and Accountabilities Engaging Stakeholders and Audiences
  • To understand and support communications with key stakeholders and audiences including NGO's, IGO's, public and regulatory authorities, industrials, associations, press and the general public.
  • To develop and maintain a clear understanding of the stakeholder universe and description of target audiences, and ensure effective delivery of the story of OGCI.
  • To co-ordinate communications across the Communications Task Force, Workstreams and the Strategy and Policy team, in order to keep member companies informed / consulted.
  • To engage and leverage the full range of resources available within Member Companies.
Providing Platforms and Events
  • To support the full production of own events and media opportunities, from audience identification through to content and partnerships.
  • To manage a global external events calendar, facilitating OGCI participation or sponsorship as appropriate. Tasks include tracking invitations, identifying speakers across OGCI, liaising with host organisations and the preparation and support of engagement, including key messages, slides and speeches /hosting.
Strategic Marketing
  • To execute and implement an effective marketing and communications strategy, with ongoing identification and evaluation of communications opportunities arising from OGCI activities.
  • To support the communication and marketing requirements of the ExCom, OGCI Strategy and Policy team and senior executives.
Expanding Outreach / Communications / Content
  • To understand data insights and apply them into decision making and planning.
  • To deliver a cohesive message across all internal and external communication channels, with focus on social media and digital platforms.
  • To co-ordinate and review press inquiries for the ExCom and assist with interviews and develop media relations and positions, as required.
  • To work closely with OGCI Climate Investments, Member Company functions, coordinating communication and marketing and ensuring accuracy and consistency across channels.
  • To liaise with OGCI’s external agencies and partners to ensure smooth execution of all communications, marketing and event programmes.
Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Educated to Degree level. MBA would be advantageous. Professional qualifications in Communications and Strategic Marketing preferred.
Experience and Technical Competencies
  • Demonstrated professional experience at a senior level in communications, marketing, journalism or a similar field.
  • Strong demonstrable work experience in communications and public affairs, brand and marketing with specific track record on climate change, sustainability and energy related issue.
  • Multilateral, Non-profit, Energy or industrial sectors experience can be a plus.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively across different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong cross-cultural background is an important element.
  • Track record of effective collaboration, as well as leadership of small diverse teams.
Marketing Skills
  • Previous experience building a brand, launching a product or service.
  • Development of a marketing programme across platforms and mediums.
  • Proactive management of engagement opportunities – driving the message not just being reactive.
Communication Skills
  • Previous experience writing for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to extrapolate key messages from a diverse and technical management team.
  • Ability to demonstrate previous press and media management.
External Networks
  • Ability to leverage external networks for business advantage.
  • Understanding on how to develop and support a robust external network / community.
  • Build consensus on topics and develop recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate across a variety of levels in member organisations and with a wide range of stakeholders (multilaterals, NGOs, financial institutions, governments), agencies and contractors.
External Event and Creative Agency Management
  • Ability to prepare a brief for external providers, being an ‘effective’ client.
  • Ability to set up different types of events based on desired outcomes.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Natural curiosity and ability to work with wide range of topics and projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure effectively, managing ambiguity and change with humour and grace.
  • Ability to influence, gain consensus and execute tasks with external parties.
  • Ability to juggle tasks whilst still taking the initiative and prioritising.
  • Openness to innovate, iterate and learn, working with creatives and editorial teams.
  • Passion for making an impact on climate change.
Additional Information
  • The position is based in London.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK is mandatory.
  • International travel will be required from time to time.
  • Diverse locations of OGCI CI may result in out of hours meetings/calls, as required.
