Are you looking for a brilliant first step into marketing and the publishing industry? Are you a team player who’s highly organised? We are in search of a creative and adaptable Marketing Assistant to support our busy, award-winning team, and work across the whole of the Penguin Press list.

The role: As part of the marketing team you will sit at the heart of the publishing process, working with all other departments across the company. You’ll join a dynamic, collaborative and friendly team, supporting the marketing director and head of campaigns, assisting in the planning and execution of campaigns, and the varied day-to-day running of a busy department. There will be opportunities as the role develops to both support on and manage marketing campaigns of your own.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist the Marketing Director and Head of Campaigns with day-to-day tasks on campaigns as well as general team processes
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the marketing team
  • Support on campaign activity, including creation of creative assets: from engaging online content to point-of-sale
  • Build relationships with key contacts in all other departments across the company (including sales, publicity, production and editorial)
  • Build up the marketing campaign knowledge and experience to manage your own campaigns
  • Manage administrative responsibilities to help with the smooth running of the wider marketing team, including coordination of internal and external meetings, and working closely with the Marketing Director on diary admin and key internal publishing meetings
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations, our bi-annual catalogue, trade highlights, conferences and sales meetings
  • Process invoices and keeping budget sheets up-to-date

What you’ll bring: You don’t need publishing or marketing experience – we are looking for someone enthusiastic, curious and passionate about connecting readers with new ideas, and great writing. However, you will need:

  • A passion for books
  • Strong interpersonal and teamworking skills
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Interest in pursuing new marketing opportunities and new ways of reaching readers, staying abreast of wider book trends

The team: Penguin Press is home to the Allen Lane, Particular Books, and Pelican imprints. We publish a wide range of non-fiction books across history, science, politics, poetry and memoir, from bestselling authors such as Carlo Rovelli, Michael Lewis, Helen Castor and Naomi Klein, through to debuts like Shon Faye, Gary Stevenson and Marie Mitchell. We are also the home of Penguin Classics, and Penguin Modern Classics.

About Penguin: We’re the UK’s largest publisher; made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. Our doors are open to all kinds of talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we work hard to stretch the definition of the word publisher. Here, you’ll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

How to apply: Please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by 23:59 on Sunday 23rd June. As part of your cover letter, please tell us about a work of non-fiction you’ve read/watched/heard recently. Who would you recommend it to and why (in no more than 250 words)?

Salary: £27,500 plus bonus and benefits.

Competitive benefits package: Our people are the heart of our business, and we work hard to support a culture of responsibility and recognition.

Our benefits include:

  • Financial – discounted shopping, season ticket loan, rental deposit loan
  • Wellbeing - healthcare cash plan, employee assistance, gym loan
  • Lifestyle – taste card, tech scheme, free and discounted books

Hybrid working: We’re experimenting with a hybrid way of working that suits the needs of each team. While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. This role is based in London and we’ll expect you to work three days a week from the office, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we offer interviews to candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria for the role, and opt-in on their application form. There may be times when the volume of applications means we cannot take all eligible candidates to interview.

We encourage you to tell us about any reasonable adjustments you may need by emailing  PRHCareersUK@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk . Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable to for us to support your request.

Please note, we are not able to accept agency CVs for this role. Any CVs sent speculatively will not be eligible for a fee.
