Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Integrated Resources and the Assistant Director of Integrated Resources, and in collaboration with the General Manager, the Marketing Manager creates, develops, coordinates, and implements marketing programs and strategies that advance RMLD’s goals with exposure to key external and internal markets and customers.
Illustrative Work Activities:
Essential work activities, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the market; identifies needs for new products and services and makes recommendations to leadership.
  • Designs and executes market research (such as customer surveys).
  • Gathers and analyzes information related to demand for products and services, and efficacy of existing marketing campaigns and strategies and collaborates in the development of new marketing programs.
  • Negotiates contracts for services needed to execute a marketing strategy.
  • Conducts pricing research and analysis, in cooperation with the purchasing team, to ensure competitive product and service pricing/rate projections and analyzes and evaluates all financial aspects of product development.
  • Composes correspondence, media messages, articles, press releases, announcements, presentations, and other oral/written communications to meet RMLD’s outreach needs Composes, develops, evaluates, and conducts training on marketing activities, strategies, and policies.
  • Collaborates, participates in, and coordinates promotional activities or trade shows.
  • Establishes and maintains positive external relationships with individuals, businesses, and community-based organizations that support RMLD’s marketing efforts.
  • Acts as a liaison with the media including “Storm Liaison.”
  • Prepares and coordinates all RMLD special events and functions for external customers including visits, tours, presentations, and meetings. (Examples include Public Power Week events, Business Expo, Boy/Girl Scouts, Senior Center events, etc.).
  • Represents RMLD at community and marketing events (i.e., tree lighting ceremony, health and science fairs, Family Day, etc.).
  • Reviews, maintains and evaluates the budget for the marketing functional area.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and revisions of policies and procedures relating to the marketing and community relations functional area.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the Marketing and IRD portion of RMLD’s website.
  • Attends RMLD Board of Commissioners and RMLD Citizens’ Advisory Board meetings on an “as needed” basis for public relations related items.
  • Coordinates the distribution of media coverage of RMLD Board meetings to all cable stations that RMLD serves.

Minimum Qualifications and Essential Skills & Requirements
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline preferred; Master's degree preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize and distill concepts and data into a clear message.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Excellent ability to make presentations and communicate with the public, sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to create and manage budget.
  • Ability to conceptualize and create graphics that help communicate messages.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in marketing or marketing/communications capacity.
  • Experienced in making public presentations, answering questions, and overcoming objections.
  • Successful experience in social media promotion, including the creation of videos and podcasts.
Judgment and Initiative:
  • Ability to recognize the impact of various events, policies, procedures that reflect on the image of the RMLD from the perspective of a distinct group of customers and the overall public.
  • Should understand implications of political interaction working in a municipal utility context.
  • Must be able to offer ideas that may enhance the Department’s public image.
  • Inquisitiveness is valued
Independent Action:
  • Ensure that departmental information, (i.e., educational programs, etc.) is properly created, marketed, disseminated within existing policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Ability to take responsibility, make decisions and operate under minimal supervision.

Manual Skills:
Strong typing skills Ability to operate computers, scanners, printers, photographic, videographic, and other related equipment and tools in the performance of this position.Video and audio editing is desired.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform slight physical activity requiring lifting at least 20lbs, carrying, setting up materials and equipment for public displays, seminars, training, and meetings. Ability to travel to local events.

Supervisory:
Demonstrated capability for providing functional supervision over other employees in same or closely related positions where scope of supervisory responsibility is limited to occasional direction, guidance, explanation, etc.

License:
A driver’s license valid in MA is required.
