Position : Materials Laboratory Engineer

Sector : Manufacturing/Engineering

Location : Leigh (North West Manchester (commutable from Warrington, Wigan, Manchester, Bury))

Salary : £29,000 - £33,000 (depending on experience) + bonus

Working Hours: Days only with an early finish on Friday, 38 hrs/week, office based

Our international manufacturing client have a vacancy for a Materials Engineer - Laboratory Technician to join a small team of engineers in Leigh, Greater Manchester. The chosen candidate will report to and work together with the Materials R&D Manager. They will be primarily required to carry out experimental work on all projects the team is working on at any given time and assist with all activities of the branch. Due to the nature of the business, the work focus can shift rapidly to deal with urgent issues that may arise from customers, therefore, a great deal of flexibility is required. This role is best suited for an early-stage career graduate to join a highly technical team. This is a genuinely exciting vacancy where you see your efforts being immediately applied onto real-life products. Areas of focus may vary at times and include high strength tool steels, tungsten carbide, failure analysis, heat treatments, surface hardening, coatings, tribology, shot peening, mechanical testing, rock testing, mechanical engineering and design aspects.

Main duties:

Metallography work
Failure analysis reports
Materials Research & Development
Responsible for equipment and lab maintenance and organisation
Materials testing internally and externally, liaising with external suppliers
Working with international standards
Occasional travel in the UK and abroad as and when required to monitor field tests of drilling tools (usually not more than three trips abroad per year)

About you:

Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering degree
Experience in working in a laboratory environment (University or industry experience)
Up to 4 years work experience
IT skills and generally affiliated with technology
Able to work independently, own tasks/projects and deliver results
Attention to detail
Adaptable, responsive to change, and patient
UK work permit
UK driver's licence, car owner
Willingness to travel
Candidates must be strong and physically fit
