Mechanical Designer


My client is a growing Scottish Engineering SME that has built up a very successful reputation over the last 20+ years in the manufacture high-quality, bespoke equipment. They have an extensive design & manufacturing capability, with a great working culture. They're collaborative, pragmatic and can make quick decisions in order to benefit their staff and customer base.


Their engineering talent is renowned in the oil & gas sector for their design and manufacturing of production control systems and subsea assemblies to a global client base. Due to recent expansion, they're keen to recruit a Mechanical Designer/Draughtsperson to join their team and play a critical part in delivering some exciting, high-profile projects within the Oil & Gas industry.

The company are based in Glenrothes and you'd have significant exposure to their manufacturing site, giving you the opportunity to see your designs "come to life".


The role


The position reports directly into their Engineering Manager and will be entail:


  • Producing and checking 3D drawings and 2D Models for manufacture (fabrication and assembly)
  • Participating in internal design review meetings
  • Ensuring that internal checking and approvals procedures are adhered to
  • Participating in pneumatic and hydraulic design activity (training provided if no prior experience)
  • Taking part in full project lifecycle from concept through to manufacture
  • Liaising with Design Engineering and manufacturing departments to continually improve output
  • Prioritising and organising personal workload to ensure deadlines are achieved


The person


  • Experience generating 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacture, fabrication & assembly drawings
  • Ideally experience in Oil & Gas industry or related industry with fabricated products (e.g. Marine/Shipbuilding)
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor is required
  • Experience of being part of whole engineering process, concept design to production
  • Ideally HNC in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
  • Exposure to weld symbols, drawing notes and bills of materials
  • Drive system and hydraulic/pneumatic experience would be preferred, but not essential
  • A keenness to learn and develop
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills



There will be the expectation to spend at least 3 days a week on-site in Glenrothes, as the role will interface heavily with manufacturing and engineering teams.
