What you will be doing
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our water production team at Reading Fobney WTWs, As the successful candidate your role will be covering all aspects of engineering from mechanical and maintenance to complex electrical diagnostic work, this is to ensure that all equipment at our water treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods.
Working within the team you will follow a robust maintenance plan as well as get involved in installation projects, mechanical fault finding, project commissioning and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This role will involve:

  • Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents
  • Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required
  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures in order to improve plant resilience
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, various pumps and associated control gears
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems. With NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is essential
  • Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to clearly interact with the team
  • Deliver exceptional service through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team

  • Proactive - take the lead on recommendations and improvements around site and communicate effectively
