Job Description

Job Title: SEND Teacher - English Specialist Job Location: Oakwood Specialist College, Yate, BS37 5JB Salary: Between £27,300 and £33,600 per annum, based on 40 hours per week, 42.Contract Type: Permanent Every person deserves the right to access meaningful education. As an Teacher, you’ll ensure that neurodiverse young adults (Aged between 16 and 25) have the best education opportunities available. You’ll take a leading role in our English curriculum, designing and delivering classes for learners working at pre-entry and level 2. It’s structured around the Post 16 Study Programme model, which includes a learning program, work experience, Maths and English, and other non-qualification activities to enrich our learners' experience and prepare them for adulthood. Whilst most teachers will focus on a broader curriculum, your role will specifically focus on teaching English, and supporting other teaching colleagues in their English classes. You’ll be in a great position to do this as we’re a total communication environment. You’ll get all the training and support you need to make sure our learners have the best experience possible. This college has between 5 and 7 learners in each class, so you’ll have the chance to really get to know the learners you support. Working with the wider teaching team to embed functional English to every learner’s bespoke curriculum. Leading classroom activities including planning, teaching, and assessing learning. Focusing on functional English skills. Monitoring and recording progress, both academically and against EHCP outcomes. Providing inspirational learning opportunities to learners, whether in the classroom or out in the community. You’ll work either 1:1 with learners or in small group settings to help them achieve their learning goals. Working closely with Learning Support Assistants to direct them to effectively support the learners. You’ll need to be adaptable in your teaching style as some learners may focus on becoming more independent, while others aim to secure employment. Being able to recognise when a learners progress is at risk, and where we could improve. To be flexible and adaptable. A genuine interest in a career focused on the education of people with a wide range of needs. Holidays – You’ll work 42.4 weeks of the year during term time, but you’ll be paid annual leave to cover the remaining 9.Pension scheme – Our pension scheme is based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
