Hours: Part time – 20 hours per week

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world-leading research organisation that provides independent, objective information on military, geopolitical and geo-economic developments that could lead to conflict.

Military Balance+, the online database from the IISS Defence and Military Analysis Programme (DMAP), provides indispensable information on military forces and defence capabilities for governments, the armed forces, the private sector and the expert and opinion-forming communities.

The Institute is seeking to appoint a Project Manager for the Military Balance+ to ensure that development initiatives are introduced on schedule, and to ensure that the system operates at the highest possible level of functionality.

Project management
  • Organise meetings to identify, scope and define new requirements and development opportunities with internal stakeholders.
  • Use technical expertise and leadership to provide guidance on feasibility and cost-effectiveness of proposed solutions.
  • Organise meetings to discuss planned development tasks, track progress, identify challenges to implementation and design solutions.
  • Maintain a roadmap(s) for project and operational management purposes.
  • Liaise with Project Sponsor (Director DMAP), in order to approve proposed development timelines, costs and additional resources required.
  • Work with commercial software developers to define requirements, including costings.
  • Support the work of external developers, coordinating IISS involvement as required, including managing an internal testing process.
  • Routine liaison with Sales Manager and DMAP.
Operational management
  • Coordinate the full deployment of technical solutions, relating to product development, on the internal Content Management System and the public-facing dashboard. 
  • Coordinate and manage the testing programme for major and minor releases.
  • Technical liaison with DMAP and external developers over the identification and correction of errors or functionality issues in the CMS and dashboard.
  • Technical liaison as required with DMAP over the deployment of the Book Reporting Tool.
  • Manage staff access to the CMS.
  • As required, and in coordination with DMAP colleagues, assist and/or lead product presence at key events.
Requirements
  • Experience of business analysis and the documentation of requirements for developers
  • Software testing experience

Salary:  Based on experience within the band £35,000 – £45,000 gross per annum (FTE), paid pro-rata in line with part-time hours.
