Job Description

We are looking for a vet to join our mobile small animal practice based near Sheffield to work in a two person team in one of our converted vehicles, offering home visits to clients.

Being a mobile vet means you can plan when to start and finish your day, so we can accommodate a varied shift pattern. We create a job around the requirements of our vets. In this job you aren't inside a consulting room all day. Our vets travel across South Yorkshire, driving through lovely scenery and have time to stop for coffee at various places on their route! Nearly all of our staff have children, and we are used to working odd hours, and covering for each other when we have inevitable childcare emergencies!

The Role

We are looking for a full or part-time veterinary surgeon. Our vets work a maximum of 40 hours a week with at least one full day off work and one early finish. There is no bank holiday or out-of-hours working. We open Saturday mornings and usually ask our vets to work 1 in 3 of these mornings where we only see urgent cases.

This role can accommodate a full or part-time vet and we can also offer a term time only role. We plan our diary according to the vet's shift pattern, and so this job would also suit anyone who needs to work different days and hours on different weeks.

Our team work in pairs which rotate so that we try to work with different team members each day of the week. You may be working with an RVN or an animal care assistant. Our nurses also run their own nurse clinic lists. We work out of converted vehicles, which carry all of our equipment, medications and some basic diagnostic equipment. Our vehicles also carry laptops for accessing our practice management system, and for label printing on the move. Our base in Barlborough stores our vehicles, dispensary and reception.

We have a really good local reputation for our client care, and especially for our euthanasia services. We build great relationships with clients. Seeing patients at home also means they tend to be more relaxed, and it helps us to see how they are coping at home, and what their home environment is like. This is particularly useful when we see elderly arthritic patients, small furries and stressed out cats! Our longer consultation times allow better discussion about cases and we feel it allows us to get to know our patients much better.

Successful Candidate

We are looking for a vet with some experience (ideally qualified for at least 2 years) who is confident enough to do home visits with the aid of an assistant nurse or animal care assistant. This is currently a consulting only role. We have diagnostic equipment at our base (lab, ultrasound) but currently no surgical facilities, we refer surgical cases elsewhere.

You must hold a full UK clean driving licence

Benefits:

  • Full-time Salary starting from £42,000 and increasing dependent on experience
  • RCVS fees paid
  • 1000 per year CPD allowance
  • Cost price veterinary medicines for your own animals
