Job Description

Purpose of the Role:


• The Model Maker is responsible for ensuring that wind tunnel models and projects are manufactured to a high standard and to tight deadlines. They are responsible for assembling and maintaining scale models in the wind tunnel and model shop.

• The Model Maker is expected to attend Wind Tunnel tests, and perform changes in the Wind Tunnel on the model under direction of the Duty Aerodynamicist.

• The Model Maker must ensure that all tasks are carried out to our exacting standards within tight deadlines


Responsibilities:


• Produce all necessary parts to support the aero testing program.

• Fabricate and prepare wind tunnel models with the utmost precision, leveraging all available technology.

• Propose, explore, and contribute to the development of new methods and systems to enhance quality and process efficiency.

• Collaborate with the Model shop, Designers, and Aerodynamicists to refine scale models and workflows, aiding in the advancement of our F1 car.

• Foster effective communication across the department to sustain progress.

• Uphold and champion exemplary standards of quality and craftsmanship across all projects and components.

• Execute daily tasks with adaptability and unwavering commitment to our ongoing growth.

• Explore and implement innovative techniques.

• Demonstrate flexibility in attendance and approach to work, aligning with role requirements and project demands.

• Maintain a professional demeanor consistently, while actively promoting a positive department/team/sponsor image.


Essential Competencies:


• Automotive and engineering experience, ideally in F1.

• Strong understanding of working in small teams with high standards and tight deadlines.

• Demonstrated competence with a proactive attitude.

• Enthusiastic approach to work.

• Initiative and innovation.

• Flexibility in working with teams and colleagues.

• Familiarity with digital measurement and scanning systems and associated software.

• Proficiency in mechanical assemblies in modeling.
