This role is based in the Infrastructure and Operations department of IT & Digital, but specifically within the Network & Security Operations core function. The primary objective of Network & Security Operations is to manage the University's IT network infrastructure to assist IT & Digital and the wider University in developing systems and services that align to supporting strategic objectives.

We are looking for a skilled Network Engineer to spearhead the upgrade of our Cisco network switches across our campus. The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in modernizing our network infrastructure to enhance performance, reliability, and security.

Responsibilities:

· Lead the planning and execution of Cisco network switch upgrades across the campus.

· Evaluate current network infrastructure and recommend necessary upgrades and enhancements.

· Configure and deploy Cisco Catalyst switches and related hardware.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of upgraded switches with existing network components.

· Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.

· Implement and enforce network security measures to protect against cyber threats.

· Document all network configurations, changes, and procedures.

Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field experience.

· Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing Cisco network switches.

· Deep understanding of Cisco switch technologies, including VLANs, STP, VTP, and EtherChannel.

· Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Catalyst switches.

· Strong knowledge of network security principles and best practices.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) are highly desirable.

· Experience with network monitoring and management tools.

· Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) concepts and technologies.
