The ideal candidate for this position will have the following skills and experience:

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

MANDATORY

· Must have previous experience in similar role

· Good standard of Education

· Basic Health & Safety

· Good understanding of microbiology

· Quality awareness

· Level 2 HACCP

· Legal labelling training

DESIRED

· Worked in similar working environment

· Internal auditing training against BRC standard

· Degree in Food Technology/Food Science

· Knowledge of British Retail Consortium (BRC) working practices

· Familiarity with quality systems and procedures

· Level 2 Food Safety/Food Hygiene

· Level 3 or above HACCP

About the Role/ Responsibilities:

· Co-ordinate and update Gant chart tasks and time lines once agreed with wider team in a timely manner to meet the NPD project deadlines

· Sample making for customer submissions- physically making the requested samples while coordinating with operations team to the agreed recipe in the requested packaging format; sending the samples to the customer for their assessment; includes providing the recipes to the Specs team for the creation of the submission forms and labels.

· Involvement in the agreement of the cutter guide / print spec- including the trialing of blank labels / packaging in the factory alongside Op’s & Engineering to ascertain suitability.

· Conducting factory trials- includes setting up the trial with the Planning team; coordinating with Buying for the raw materials, ingredients and / or packaging needed for the trial; physically producing the product in the factory with the assistance of Op’s and Engineering if needed to enable nutritional, shelf life, organoleptic, cooking validation information to be generated.

· Data collection for all paperwork required for example photos of the process steps for generation of assembly sheets and SOP’s.

· Confirmation that the scaled-up kitchen recipe is correct; confirmation of for example palletization, packs per case, label position.

· Setting up a post- trial meeting with all relevant teams to discuss any issues raised at the trial, actions required, whether further trials are needed.

· Cooking validation and cook loss data collection- carry out cooking of products to create and / or validate the on- pack cooking instructions; carry out cook loss work and ensure the Spec team have this information.

· Arrange for external cooking validation if required- this will include the completion of the paperwork for the external service provider and sending the samples to them.

· Shelf life, organoleptic and nutritional testing- including sending products for shelf-life testing to the contracted lab and carrying out sensory/organoleptic tasting assessment of products internally; completing documents for the analysis and assessment; ensuring these are available to the Spec team.

· Assembly sheets- creating the assembly sheets for use in the factory including information gathered from trials and recipes; creating batch recipes for the factory for scaled up production from the kitchen recipe; ensuring the Spec team have the info needed for the creation of the factory mini spec.

· Transit trials- arranging with operations team and sending out; assessment of product upon return including photo’s, relevant paperwork completion and feedback to Operations team.

· Artwork approval- checking and approving the artwork from an NPD perspective for example the ingredients, cooking instructions, photography approval; completion of all related paperwork.

· New raw materials, ingredients, and packaging intake- checking of any new raw materials against the agreed spec at point of first delivery alongside the QA and Spec teams assessments.

· Completion of pre- production run prior to launch; setting up the pre- production trials with Planning and operations teams; checking and testing all elements of the process from start to finish; gathering further information / photos for factory paperwork if needed.

· Helping and educating Operations & Technical teams on the product and process; hand over to Operations and Technical teams.

· First production samples & project review- collecting samples from the first production and sending to the customer; setting up and carrying out a ‘wash up’ meeting with all relevant departments.

· Support NPD function and Specifications manager, liaising with all stake holders with artwork sign off process on new and existing products art work changes.

· Adopt ‘best practice’ in accordance with company processes and procedures to ensure the Company operates in compliance with BRCGS, MSC, ASC, RSPCA, Global GAP standards;
