Job Description

We are currently searching for a Qualified Occupational Health Advisor to join our team in Southampton. This position will be a mix of medicals and case management, including referrals. Including conducting professional health surveillance, perform safety critical medicals, screening, DSE Assessments, and health promotion/wellbeing services.

This position will be onsite, and we can be somewhat flexible with the hours or days worked per week (Min 22 hours and max 30 hours). This role will take part in health surveillance and screening programs for both workers and contractors, in accordance with HSE standards and Medical Standards, such as, but not limited to:

  • Drivers Medicals
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing
  • Spirometry
  • Audiometry
  • HAVs Tier 1-2
  • Skin Surveillance
  • Safety Critical Medicals

About The Role
How will you contribute:

  • Play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of the many employees of our clients and use your specialist clinical skills to provide expert assessments and the right solutions to match the client's needs.
  • Provide a comprehensive and proactive Occupational Health service concerning all areas of occupational health & wellbeing.
  • Develop and review policies, procedures, and guidelines to build the Occupational Health standards and frameworks.
  • Manage and ensure compliance to all relevant professional, clinical and company standards.
  • Through high visibility, establish a proactive relationship with staff, managers and HR Business Partners, to deliver a comprehensive, business focused and clinically sound Occupational Health service in accordance with current legislation, Department of Health and NICE guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide specialist advice to staff and their line managers during periods of ill health and/or sickness absence, along with detailed medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with best practice and the Equality Act, which reflects the needs of the business.
  • Carry out pre-employment screening, safety critical medicals and period medicals, (including drug and alcohol testing), health promotion, DSE assessments and health surveillance.
  • Proactively manage absence and sickness case management and referrals; ensuring outcomes and reports are communicated in a timely manner and ensure all clinical practice and outcomes is evidence based and is supported by risk assessments and medical standards, where appropriate.
  • Act as the company Advisor on all aspects of Health and Wellbeing.
  • Ensure comprehensive clinical records are kept for all employees and ensure a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Provide effective and pro-active communication to all stakeholders to ensure a seamless service is delivered.
  • Take responsibility for your own personal development to keep abreast of current developments within the occupational health and well-being arena, OH nursing and engage in the appraisal process and NMC Revalidation.

What will you Bring.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Registered General Nurse (NMC Registered)
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience
  • Previous experience working within an Occupational Health setting is essential
  • Demonstrable experience, proven knowledge of undertaking health surveillance such as audiometry, spirometry, HAVS etc., and undertaking safety critical medicals such as forklift truck, working at height and confined space etc.
  • Experience/knowledge of Health and Safety, risk assessment, clinical audit, research, evidence-based practice within clinical setting and policy/procedural development.
  • Up to date awareness and understanding of HSE legislation, SEQOHS and all governance aspects, but with a specific emphasis on work, health and well-being issues and knowledge of Health and Safety law, of the changing needs within the speciality and in health trends.
  • Demonstrable experience of IT systems; including e-mail, Word, Excel etc.
  • Proven evidence of meeting regulatory (i.e. recent and relevant) CPD/Revalidation requirements.
  • NMC Level 1 Registration.
