Job summary The Dental Out of Hours (OOH) service provides urgent dental care to the population of Buckinghamshire. It is hosted by CNWL Community Dental Service, part of CNWL NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will work weekday evening sessions ( hours), weekend sessions (8 hours) and/or Bank Holiday sessions (8 hours) which will be allocated on a rota basis. Shift patterns currently available are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6pm - 9:30pm They will need to carry out dental nursing duties to include assisting the dental clinician in treating patients. Maintain high standards in Infection Prevention Control Assist the patient on their treatment journey Provide triage Patients access the Out of Hours Dental Service via 111. Main duties of the job Ensure that the surgery is welcoming and prepared for the type of patient and treatment planned. Provide chair-side assistance to the clinician to include treating special care patients with learning and/or physical disabilities, patients with complex medical conditions, diagnosed Mental Health conditions, anxious children and adults, acting under the supervision and direction of the clinician. May be required to assist in the provision of dental treatment on a domiciliary basis. May be required to assist when carrying out audits, screenings or epidemiological surveys including any related duties to support this. Job description Job responsibilities To communicate with the clinical team and peers in an appropriate manner. To demonstrate the application of the principles of ethical behaviour relevant to dentistry, including honesty, confidentiality, personal and professional integrity, and compliance with the standards for dental professionals laid down by the GDC. To take responsibility for own continuous professional development, maintaining professional knowledge and competence in line with the personal development plan agreed at annual appraisal. Demonstrate a professional approach, including participation in appraisal, peer review, clinical audit and continuing professional development activities. Provide supervision and assists with annual appraisals for staff. Up to date knowledge and skills in clinical techniques and their application in accordance with the General Dental Councils requirement for lifelong learning. Attend mandatory training as required by CNWL and the Dental Service Have and maintain full registration with the General Dental Council. Take responsibility for personal development. Have a commitment to high professional standards. Be able to travel to work at other dental sites, some of which are not easily served by public transport and therefore the post holder would be expected to make necessary travel arrangements to meet these needs. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Good general education up to GCSE O level standard / NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience. Full registration with General Dental Council. Desirable Additional relevant Dental Nurse Certificate. Knowledge Essential Demonstrable knowledge of cross infection control standards. Skills Essential Ability to develop & maintain high standards of communication both orally and in writing with people about difficult matters & / in difficult situations. Ability to maintain quality in own work and encourage others to do so. Experience Essential Current or recent experience working as a dental nurse with clinical commitment in hospital, salaried or general dental service Clerical experience of using dental software packages. Able to supervise trainees and unqualified staff. Desirable Previous NHS Experience within an OOH service Experience of assisting with provision of care under general anaesthesia. Experience of assisting with provision of care under inhalation sedation. Experience of assisting with provision of care on a domiciliary basis. Experience of working in secure settings. Experience of working with a dentist to carry out screenings or epidemiological surveys.
