Operations Director – Specialist equipment hire
Based Southern England
Salary – competitive salary + bonus + benefits
This is an excellent opportunity to help grow a specialist equipment hire business, part of a privately owned, well invested group. There is good growth potential across the markets they serve. They are long-term owners who trust their business managers to run their businesses as if they were their own. They are happy to invest in a number of areas:
- Increasing the size of the fleet
- Improved sales & marketing strategy
- Expanding the team
Trading from several locations they have a great reputation for customer service, a modern fleet of equipment, including some very specialist equipment servicing a number of growing markets.
They are now looking to strengthen their leadership team with this key appointment which could be a successor to the MD in the medium term. There will be freedom to trade in an autonomous environment with no bureaucracy and the support of the parent company.
Potential candidates should have:
- A successful track record of profitably running and growing a specialist machinery sales or equipment hire business, as Operations Director or another senior leadership role
- Experience with electro-mechanical machinery is a distinct advantage. This could be compressors, pumps, blowers or something similar
- Can successfully operate in a small, growing company environment. Whilst the parent company has a turnover of £150m+, this is an SME
- A proactive, inquisitive, common sense approach
- Strong, positive communication skills.
- Willingness to roll sleeves up and always looking for opportunities to improve the business
- To be customer-facing and enjoy doing this. Knowledge of industrial process industries and/or water utilities is an advantage
- A self-starter who can operate at pace, making decisions in a confident manner – no procrastination here please!
- Energetic and creative, resilient and tenacious. Willing to embrace the challenge
- Can deliver the right level of information up and down the structure as required
- Leadership of the highest calibre: inspire, lead, motivate, and engage with people throughout the business
- Commercially, technically and financially aware, not just an operations expert
- You must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Southern England. There will be limited travel throughout the UK
