The main accountabilities for this role are:
- To support Reckitt’s Health Business Units; including managing and advising on worldwide patent and design matters, invention harvesting, freedom to operate advice, competitor monitoring, validity opinions, drafting, filing, agreements including licensing, managing external agents, oppositions, portfolio management, providing training to colleagues outside of the Global Patent Department on patent and designs and, on occasion, litigation.
- To support a variety of matters working as directed by Manager, both autonomously and with other patent attorneys in Reckitt’s Global Patent Department (GPD).
- To work as part of Reckitt’s Global Legal team.
- Typically based in Slough or Hull, travel within the UK and overseas will be required on occasion.
Qualifications & skills:
- Educated to degree level, 2:1 or higher (or equivalent) in chemistry or a related subject.
- Professionally qualified UK and/or European Patent Attorney.
- Experienced in Chemical subject matter, Biochemistry and/or Biotechnology (ideally Chemical subject-matter), including drafting and freedom to operate opinion work, registered design work, gained either within private practice and/or in-house.
- Excellent communication skills, in particular being able to effectively present legal advice to non-legally qualified Reckitt employees in a clear commercial context.
- An advantage:
- Subject-matter experience in Biochemistry and/or Biotechnology.
- Experience of working in an Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company patent department.
- Exposure to FMCG businesses.
- Experience in advising on intellectual property in NDAs, Joint Developments, Licensing
- Experience of patent landscaping and/or competitor monitoring.
