Planning & Roadmap Director, Barclays UK

London or Northampton

About Barclays UK Transformation

The Transformation team is a specialist team of c.300 change and planning experts, here to support BUK in delivering transformational change for the good of our customers and colleagues. We set the multi-year transformational roadmap for BUK, acting as coordinators, enablers, and stewards of that plan, keeping the business aligned.

The Planning & Roadmap Director will play a critical role in the success of Barclays UK. In this role, you will bring together the strategic priorities, the commercial plan, the investment plan and the business plan – and make sure they are all fully aligned. In the past, these plans were created in silo. By integrating these, in the structured process of a rolling plan, we make sure our strategic priorities match the latest external trends. The investment not only matches these priorities, but also matches the income growth and savings targets in the plan and the operational plan, from numbers of calls, customer satisfaction and service levels all the way down the workforce plans in turn match the commercials and growth plans.

What will you be doing

• The purpose of the strategic planning team is to ensure our plans, targets and delivery are all aligned – and set us up to deliver great service to customers, deliver on commercial targets and make a difference to the community. Each element of the plan has an owner in the business.

• The director will help us connect the dots, spot where the dots aren’t connected and help us make decisions to get to a consistent plan. We want your help to get to an integrated plan, in a way that is transparent, analytically sound and driven through collaboration.

• Development of the quarterly integrated plan – Work with our Exco and their teams to rebalance the plan each quarter, into a 12-18 months rolling plan. Covering our strategic priorities, market share, balance sheet, income, cost shape, investment plan, operational targets, workforce plan and transformation initiatives.

• Horizon scanning – Provide external insights, working with teams across the bank and your own team, to identify trends and areas where Barclay is ahead/behind the benchmark.

• Manage the front-door for demand – Establish the processes and tools to maintain a single view of operational demand and ensure demand matches the commercial and service plans through trade-offs where needed.

• Improve the planning process – Work collaboratively with other teams across the firm to improve our planning process, metrics, target setting and delivery. Identify improvement opportunities and create a delivery roadmap. That may include planning systems, metrics, meta-data, dashboards, processes, tools and/or governance.

• This is a role that allows you to see the entire Retail bank on an end-to-end basis. You’ll be the person connecting the work of many different teams together into a single plan. That takes a certain type of person. You’re comfortable to work across levels – from C-level Execs, to change leaders, planning leads and experts across finance, HR, marketing and other teams.

• Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work you do.

What we’re looking for

• Proven track record of working with multiple senior stakeholders (C-level).

• Comfortable with commercials and strategy setting, a background in strategy, finance, planning, business management or commercial roles.

• Experience in influencing stakeholders, working through conflict and complex challenges.

• Comfortable with virtual management, strong ability to influence, collaborate and drive results through others, outside of your own management lines.

• Experience in driving improvements, across processes, tools, ways of working or other areas.

Skills that will help you in your role

• Strategic thinker – You can see the big picture.

• Commercial – You’ve got a nose for the money & you love numbers.

• Collaborator – You enjoy bringing people together.

• Conductor – You know when to take charge, but let the orchestra play their best music

• Ambiguity – You can bring structure to complex problems.

• Experience and/or qualifications in the fields of accounting, project management, lean and six-sigma are not required, but are beneficial to the role.

• You don’t need to have a Retail banking background. You might come from a different industry.
