Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Policy Director who will report directly to our Chief Compliance Officer and support the strategy to create a Centre of Excellence for regulatory affairs primarily by taking the lead on FCA policy agenda interpretation, regulatory change initiatives and related internal policy development to ensure that Gallagher can continue to meet its regulatory obligations. 

This is a great opportunity for a Policy Specialist with an excellent working knowledge of FCA to join our growing Compliance team.

The role can be based anywhere in the UK.

Your role:

Regulatory Developments

  • Carry out monitoring of regulatory policy updates arising from the main UK regulatory or Government institutions, which may affect Gallagher’s business operations or its customers.
  • Support SMEs within the Compliance department with active policy consultation, design and implementation phases for new regulatory projects and initiatives.
  • Provide input and work with key stakeholders to ensure that Gallagher’s views are represented in response to specific consultations that may affect the Group or our customers.
  • Develop and sustain a high-level knowledge of key regulatory policy areas insofar as they relate to Gallagher businesses.
  • Write high quality, informative and concise reports and / or briefings for use by the UK & EMEA Executive Committee, Board members and other senior leaders to facilitate effective stakeholder engagement across the Group.

Policy Development

  • Ensure that a programme of mapping of key policies against FCA Handbook requirements is maintained and can be evidenced on an ongoing basis. 
  • Lead on and coordinate the internal and external stakeholder engagement/consultation process for reviews of key policies owned by the Compliance department including the Compliance Framework.
  • Perform and/or coordinate stakeholder engagement and communications for Compliance SME review of key policies owned outside of the Compliance department. 
  • Work with Policy Owners and SMEs on the development and effective dissemination of policy content.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a regular and proportionate review schedule for policies within the PSM (both for the UK and Nordic).

Reporting

  • Coordinate an annual regulatory risk assessment (State of the Nation paper), drawing on research and analysis, to report on enterprise-wide and functional compliance performance. 
  • Oversee the timely submission of Board and Committee reports to Company Secretary.
  • Review and edit submissions to ensure that they are high quality, concise and informative as well as consistent with previous submissions.

Your Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Excellent working knowledge of FCA rules and their application to insurance brokers and a good understanding of the EU regulatory framework
  • Prior policy development experience in public/private sector essential, preferably in financial services regulation.
  • Knowledge of regional regulatory environment including general insurance products, services, and classes of insurance including underlying legal principles and practices relating to risk within own role capacity desired.
  • Ability to think clearly and rigorously, to draw reasoned and logical inferences from proposed regulation or legislation and use judgement to reach robust and practical conclusions.
  • Excellent communicator (oral and written) with strong research and analytical skills, able to disseminate complex information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to build positive relationships, establish credibility and to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • High degree of self-awareness and self-management.
  • Eligible to work in the UK
