Responsibilities of the Power Systems Engineer:
- Produce and review steady state compliance studies to include load flow, reactive power capability, P28 / P29 power quality, G55 harmonics, Insulation coordination, arc flash, protection coordination studies
- Undertake and manage simulation studies for generation connections carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with engineering recommendations, the distribution code, the grid code, and industry standards
- Review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by external consultants, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with engineering recommendations, the distribution dode, the grid code, and industry standards
- Update and compile company standards to facilitate the production of in-house simulation studies
- Setout the studies design process, templates and deliverables for system studies
- Contribute to the development of in-house design engineers by providing in-house mentoring and training
- Provide technical support the team of electrical design engineers
- Ensure that all designs are designed for safety and are compliant with CDM and Health and Safety regulations, including producing design risk assessments, and effectively communicating risks to design and project engineers
- Be responsible for managing the delivery of simulation studies within agreed timeframes and to a high-quality
- Build relationships with clients, and attend design and project co-ordination meetings with clients, their consultants, DNO and TNO representatives as necessary
Criteria for the Power Systems Engineer:
- Previous experience as a simulation studies electrical engineer within the electrical consulting or utilities industries
- Possess excellent electrical first principles knowledge and have a demonstratable working knowledge of simulation software packages including Digsilent / Powerfactory, PSCAD, ETAP, IPSA
- HNC or higher in electrical engineering
- Have obtained or be working towards professional registration with the IET at CENG level
