Role: Lead Engineer- EDU Systems

Location: Whitley/Gaydon, UK

Duration: 12 months fixed term contract

We are looking for a Powertrain Lead Engineer with 3-12 years of experience in design and development of Powertrain systems like Electric Drive-units and transmission components who will be leading the Design, Release and Execution of Powertrain systems.

The Engineer will be responsible for engineering the technical content and integrity of actuated mechanisms, Gears, Shafts and bearings in and across in-house Electric Drive Unit Programmes, in addition to ensuring delivery of the commodity plan to quality, cost and time working in the Powertrain Engineering team.

Requirements:

• Educated to a degree level or higher in an engineering discipline (or similar) with experience in delivery of a vehicle commodity through product development within an OEM/Tier1 organisation.

• Strong understanding of DFMEA, PPAP process, DRBFM activities, APQP & DVP is required.

• Should be able to create and develop product design specifications, Engineering statement of requirements and Design standards.

• Should be able to read and interpret Concepts, CAE and CFD analysis reports.

• Capable of performing tolerance stack analysis on complex assemblies.

• Should have creative problem solving ability with strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.

• Good understanding of vehicle architecture and experienced in powertrain systems and commodity delivery.

• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and be able to perform individually.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Use engineering quality systems (FMEAs, robustness studies, etc.) to identify and contain potential quality concerns

• Root cause analysis and resolution of issues during development / launch / in production using 8D / Six Sigma Methods

• Generate robust design specifications to define system functional targets and deliver components to meet targets. Support Test and Development team with DVP planning and execution, whilst ensuring supplier tests are completed on time.

• Manage CAD engineers to achieve static and dynamic clearance targets.

• Creation and manage a commodity plan for each programme including design and manufacturing lead times as well as alignment to programme timing.

• Lead and coordinate product design in accordance APQP and Collaborate with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Development and Suppliers to ensure all aspects of PPAP are met and also achieve deadlines as defined by programme gateway deliverables.

• Complete change tracking documents and engineering release notices (ECN) to allow engineering changes to be approved by the organisation

• Present programme status to Vehicle Unit Gateways, support vehicle design reviews, and programme module team meetings.

• Support and/or lead DFMEAs and input to manufacturing PFMEAs

• Analyse, review and validate test data and support test instrumentation hardware and software readiness.

• Acquire and evaluate industry, competitor and emerging technologies appropriate for the commodity and compatibility with programme targets.
