For our Hersham office (* See Note Below) we are currently looking for an ambitious Principal Civil/Structural Engineer who will be required to;


Qualifications


The Principal Civil/Structural Engineer shall hold an engineering degree in Civil Engineering and be a chartered engineer in either the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers.


Experience


  • Civil and Structural experience in a Process Design Industry is preferred.
  • Held a position in a supervisory role as Area Lead
  • Shall be thoroughly proficient in all the tasks and responsibilities below. Experience in the following would be expected
  • Foundation design both shallow and piled for a variety of structures - dynamic equipment e.g. compressors, building foundations (including underground services), static equipment and piperack structures
  • The structural design of steelwork such as piperacks, compressor buildings.
  • Some understanding of geotechnical terminology and principles to aid discussions with geotechnical specialists to appreciate ground conditions.
  • Ability to understand the duration for various civil and structural tasks in order to assist in preparation of project schedules.
  • Design of modular structures (piping modules, equipment skids)
  • Have knowledge in the use of industry wide software package – STAAD-Pro,
  • Use of various international design standards – AISC, IBC,ASCE, Eurocodes


Qualities


  • Will be required to have a good approach to health and safety
  • Abilities to work across multi discipline teams. He/she will be required to work independently representing the Civil Department and be effective in promoting and supporting all aspects of the work carried out in the Department.
  • An all-round flexible Civil and Structural Engineer willing to commit time and effort to achieve project requirements
  • Able to work with different cultures around the world, in particular with offices in US, India and Shanghai.
  • Prepared to travel when required, both to site and other engineering offices globally. Typically 6 -8 weeks per year on a planned basis
  • Require good communication skills in both verbal and written English


Duties and responsibilities


Support the Civil/Structural Manager with the Departments activities. Support the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on a Project.to manage the delivery of the civil and structural scope either by managing a team in house (UK or India), undertaking the work by self or executing using a local outsourcing design house. Involved in developing the design basis for the Civil and Structural scope. Provide guidance and oversight for ‘design and build’ contracts for non-process buildings (e.g. control and admin buildings, security , maintenance Buildings .) Assist the Department in keeping up with national codes and revising in house standards and specifications to suit. Bring experience to the value engineering process by suggesting new economical ways in designing the work. Involvement with proposals for future work such as estimating hours and quantities for construction costs.




*Earlier this year, Air Products announced plans to relocate from the current Hersham offices in Surrey, UK to a new site. The current building doesn’t align with our sustainability commitments and it is not feasible to upgrade it to the same standard as modern buildings. The new offices will be located at 1000 Hillswood Park, Chertsey KT16 0PS. The building is set in parkland space with an EPC rating of A and a number of sustainability credentials including solar panels, and air source heat pumps. The move is expected to take place in phases from September 2024 onwards
