Job Description

My client, a dynamic and growing environmental consultancy, are seeking a Principal Ecologist to join their Manchester team. The successful applicant would be tasked with managing a team of ecologists to provide bespoke ecological solutions for projects within the natural and built environment.

Role Description

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for wider teams’ management, supporting staff to complete highly technical reports, reviewing work and offering client liaison for a range of queries and requirements. As the business is undergoing an exciting growth phase, the opportunity to develop new business and engage with prospective stakeholders is also encouraged, giving you the opportunity to develop the teams project focusses in-keeping with the projects you want to be a part of!

Qualifications / Requirements

* Bachelor’s degree (or higher) within relevant academic field, such as: Ecology or Environmental Science
* Have a minimum of 8 years’ professional experience within UK Ecological Consultancy
* Have excellent knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
* Expert fieldwork and report writing skills including protected species surveys, EPSM applications, ES chapters and ecological management plans.
* Experience conducting surveys and completing mitigation reports for at least 2 of the following: bats, badgers, breeding birds, dormouse, great crested newts, reptiles, and water voles.
* Hold at least 1 protected species license from those listed above.
* Experience managing individual and teamwork loads to varying deadlines.
* Be proficient in customer service and the ability to deliver and lead training events and workshops, both internally to Temple and externally to clients and other stakeholders.
* Hold full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and preferably CecoL.
* Have proven qualities of a proactive self-starter with an ability to use own initiative when appropriate.
* Have a full clean UK driving licence.
