PRINCIPAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

REMOTE, UK

Gi Pro are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join an established Design Consultancy Company who provide a complete, comprehensive, and cost-effective service to users of high-voltage distribution systems.

THE ROLE:

As a Principal Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead as the Technical expert, guiding and overseeing design issues.
  • Take responsibility for identifying staff training needs, managing client interactions and meetings, contributing to technical and safety audits, assisting in bids and tenders, supporting sales efforts, and conducting external audits.
  • You will be responsible for managing a team of design and CAD engineers as their line manager, overseeing the quality assurance process during design, checking and approval stages. Your role includes ensuring timely completion of designs before site activities.
  • Coordinate and oversee the utilisation of internal agency and subcontracted design personnel to fulfil the business requirements effectively.
  • Collaborate with project management personnel to deliver design services that align with project schedule requirements.
  • Working closely with the Commissioning Manager to establish and communicate site testing parameters according to design specifications.

THE CANDIDATE:

The ideal Principal Electrical Engineer:

  • Power Engineering Degree
  • Working knowledge of Transformers, cables, Switchgear, and protection schemes).
  • A record of taking responsibility for design activities on large traction power projects
  • People management with engineering staff experience
  • Experience with high-voltage distribution systems up to 132kV.
  • ICP/DNO design experience (Primary and Grid substations) would be required, Health and Safety experience or qualifications.
  • Unrivalled expertise in high voltage applications means that they can undertake work at any stage in the life of a power distribution system, from first conception through successful commissioning to subsequent regular maintenance.
  • Travelling to customer sites, this is not required on a regular basis.
