Babcock International and Devonport The Principal Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines.

Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role The difference our new Principal Engineer will make As a Principal Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary.

You'll be part of a significant programme of infrastructure investment and development that is required on the Devonport site to meet the needs of the future MOD ship and submarine programmes.

The team are undertaking design on upgrading the existing dock to meet modern standards and support Astute Deep Maintenance Programme (ADMP).

Day to day, you'll lead and manage mechanical handling design packages for the 10 Dock Facility ensuring Requirements are met through the design process; whilst also, managing deliverables through the Babcock Design process and Technical Governance process to ensure quality and consistency.

This role is predominantly delivered remotely with occasional travel to site.

Essential Experience Demonstrable experience of designing conventional mechanical handling equipment to support production activities.

Ideally, knowledge of designing cranes through design process with experience of requirements substantiation thereof.

Knowledge of lifting techniques, process etc.

within a facility based production environment.

A Degree in a relevant discipline and ideally, Chartered Membership of an appropriate Institution.

You will need to satisfy security requirements.

This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
