Job Description:At Leonardo, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. CS3 operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.This role will involve developing solutions for the next-generation of support and training services (mainly in the land and air domains), to meet the needs of a variety of customers around the world. You will play a key role in determining customer needs, developing support solution and service concepts, and creating and delivering compelling bids, including the associated documentation.We are looking for someone with experience of working at a system level, who thrives when working in the problem space, is good at drawing out and understanding stakeholder needs, as well as looking at different concepts for creating optimal value solutions for both the customer and the business. In this role you will work closely with the internal Leonardo teams and with external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, giving you the opportunity to influence and optimise the holistic solution.Support the identification, elicitation, capture and management of a complete set of stakeholder requirements, and support the creation of a stakeholder engagement and communication strategyEstablish and mature stakeholder needs, associating/attributing priority, interest, influence and trade-off needs to determine optimum capability to solve stakeholders’ problems. Support the establishment of Use Cases.Support the creation of support and service solutions including identifying and exploiting existing Leonardo technology, processes, and subject matter expertise to ensure that it is re-used where suitable.Carry out system functional analysis, modelling and architecture development / refinement as requiredDeliver technical documentation and designs to meet the requirements of the programme in terms of time, cost and qualityEscalate emerging issues and levels of risk and helping define opportunities and risk mitigation optionsCoordinate multi-stakeholder analysis into reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partnersFoster relationships and networks within and outside CS3 and actively identify opportunities for adoption of best practiceCoach or mentor other engineersExperience of analysing the Customers’ operational needs to help guide the development of services capable of meeting the needs of current and future support and training environmentsExperience and understanding of the engineering lifecycle, and how decisions made in the early lifecycle affect the later stagesAbility to balance competing needs using a range of methods such as operational analysis, structured analytical techniques, and competitor analysisStrong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with an ability to influence and adapt according to changing demandsAbility to elicit technical and commercial stakeholder needs that are suitable for sell-offAbility to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a wide range of organisations, disciplines, backgrounds and levels of seniorityAbility to maintain engineering best practice, including looking externally to sources such as academia or other industriesExperience of managing requirements, including use of associated toolsetsSelf-motivated with an aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusionAppreciation of how a system fits within the broader capability enterprise, for example as a component of a system-of-systems solution and wider dependencies such as personnel and infrastructureAwareness of digital technologies and/or synthetic environmentsExperience of developing defence-based support or service solutionsSecurity Clearance : Life at Leonardo With a company funded benefits package, a commitment to learning and development, and a flexible approach to working hours focused on the needs of both our employees and customers, a career with Leonardo has never offered as many opportunities or been more accessible to as many people.Flexible Working: Flexible hours with hybrid working options.
