Position: Principal Telecommunications Engineer

Location: London

Permanent

To grow our Infrastructure MEP capability, we are looking for a Principal Telecommunications Engineer to join us in London. Working for UK and International clients, you’ll be responsible for telecommunications concept and performance design on some of the most prestigious projects in infrastructure, particularly in metro and tunnel crossing projects. This role also includes a unique opportunity to contribute to other major infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:

  • Contributing towards the design of projects for a wide range of clients 
  • Planning design work and deliverables together with MEP team
  • Development and technical assurance of design including use of relevant software
  • Design coordination of multi-disciplinary aspects of schemes
  • Motivating your team to higher levels of performance, ensuring they comply with business processes and procedures in a timely manner
  • Mentoring junior team members in design
  • Work to build relationships with clients and other stakeholders

On top of that, you’ll have: 

  • MEng or BEng in Electrical, Telecommunications or Instrumentation Engineering
  • Ideally Chartered Engineer status or at least be working towards this
  • Experience in telecommunications concept and performance design for metro and tunnel infrastructure. Candidates with experience in other industries may also be considered.
  • Experience in designing wired and wireless telecommunications systems including Security Systems (CCTV, Access Control Audio Visual System and IDS), Fire Alarm & Detection System and ICT Systems (Telecommunication System, Data Networking and Radio System)
  • Understanding of I/O schedules and the ability to interface with other mechanical and electrical disciplines, including assessing and communicating power and earthing requirements for telecommunications equipment
  • Experience of cable management system sizing for telecoms equipment.
  • Experience of relevant telecommunications system sizing calculations for example bandwidth and signal loss calculations
  • SCADA, BMS, control systems, Intelligent Transport Systems or other areas of telecommunications engineering design would be an added advantage.
  • Awareness of BSEN61508 safety integrity levels
