The Business

We are seeking to recruit a Principle Civil/Structural Engineer for our client based in Northamptonshire.


Our client has a long-distinguished history in the construction of landmark structures around the world, particularly iconic bridges and buildings.


The organisations principal focus now is the design, manufacture and operation of specialist equipment and temporary works for the construction of bridges, buildings, offshore structures, refineries, power stations and industrial plants. They have particular expertise in the erection of long span suspension and cable stayed bridges and in the engineering for specialist modular construction including heavy lifting and skidding operations.


To join the engineering team in the Northamptonshire office in the Midlands, England we are seeking an enthusiastic civil/structural Principal Engineer with comprehensive experience in engineering management and structural design, particularly steelwork, and a flair for engineering solutions.




The Role

  • Engineering project management including resource planning and programming, design review and ensuring agreed deliverables are completed and issued on time and within budget.
  • Client liaison on technical matters.
  • Work within an established team of Engineers and CAD Technicians in accordance with the requirements of our Company Management Systems (ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001).
  • Mentor and check/review the work of Engineers and CAD Technicians.
  • Conceptual and detailed design of construction methods and temporary structures, particularly in steel to Eurocode standards.
  • Analysis review of structures using computer programs STAAD Pro and LUSAS.
  • Preparation of design calculations, using Microsoft Excel (preferred) or by hand.
  • Preparation of sketches and drawings either by hand or use of Autodesk AutoCad and/or Inventor.
  • Supervision of CAD team to produce 3-D models, GA and manufacturing drawings.
  • Preparation of technical documentation including project design statements, designer’s risk assessments and engineering method statements.
  • Preparation of tender designs and estimates.




The Person

Essential:

  • Chartered Engineer with a good degree (min 2:1) in civil/structural engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years post-graduation experience in analysis and design of structures, particularly in steel.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in the use of Eurocodes for design.
  • Experience of technical team leadership and management.
  • Temporary works and construction engineering knowledge, particularly heavy lifting equipment and techniques.
  • Excellent problem solving, presentation and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Good general IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, E-mail systems etc).


Preferable:

  • Experience in the design and construction of long span bridges and major buildings.
  • Experience in design of specialist temporary works, particularly related to heavy lifting and moving projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001 and experience in company management systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of CAD packages (Autodesk AutoCad and/or Inventor)Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Some site and/or industrial practical experience.
