Purpose of Role

With the expansion of the global privacy team, the increasing workload produced by the privacy programme and business demand for supplier due diligence, an opportunity has presented itself within Entain’s Data Privacy team, who require additional legal and data protection support.

We are looking for a qualified in-house lawyer to be based in our London office.

Commercial contract experience is essential, however, additional experience in data privacy legislation, such as the General Data Protection Regulation and other international privacy laws, is desirable.

What you'll be doing:

 In particular, the individual will be able to work as part of the global privacy team to assist with the following key work-streams;

  • Negotiating, drafting and advising on privacy agreements, including Data Protection Addendum’s and Data Sharing Agreements.
  • Conducting due diligence on existing or new vendors (through the completion of data privacy assessments) and reviewing outputs on the OneTrust tool.
  • Partnering with the procurement and information security teams to develop and incorporate privacy controls, including conducting supplier audits and due diligence assessments as part of our supplier risk management framework.
  • Supporting the Privacy Lawyers / DPOs with investigating data breaches and, if necessary, preparing reports to relevant data protection regulator.
  • Assisting the Privacy Lawyers / DPOs with responding to any regulator complaints.
  • Providing legal advice on Data Subject Requests (mainly access and deletion requests), including a final review of Data Subject Access Request (“DSARs”).
  • Drafting and/or regularly updating existing and new Entain policies, such as customer and employee-facing privacy notices and other internal group policies owned by the data privacy team.
  • Supporting the Group Data Retention Manager with the review and implementation of the Group Data Retention policy.
  • Supporting the AI Governance Programme at Entain and carrying out relevant research tasks regarding the impact of new laws and regulations on the gambling industry.
  • Providing broad legal advice to the business on applicable data protection law, including strategic advice concerning data on topics such as M&A due diligence, marketing initiatives, and any new or existing business projects that involve the use of personal data.
  • Supporting the Data Privacy Manager and Privacy Lawyers / DPOs in completing and assessing new projects/initiatives, products and business processes through Data Privacy Impact Assessments and other risk assessments.
  • Providing training to the business on applicable data protection laws.
  • Researching and documenting future requirements driven by upcoming privacy legislation and providing support in advising the business on emerging legal and regulatory risks.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Interest in IT developments and new technologies. 
  • Qualified lawyer, with experience either in-house or at a law firm.
  • Degree-level qualified, such as Legal, Privacy or IT/Comms degree with a compliance add on.
  • Good attitude and solid work approach.
  • Multi-tasker, inquisitive and proactive self-starter and able to work with tight deadlines.
  • Has the capacity to fulfil responsibilities with limited supervision whilst maintaining effective communication with the Privacy Lawyers’ / DPOs and the rest of the privacy team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to correspond with customers, suppliers and senior stakeholders across various teams and departments.
  • Process orientated and excellent attention to detail.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling often sensitive team and business issues.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of data protection laws, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation and other international data protection legislation, such as the UK Data Protection Act 2018.
  • International experience outside of the UK.
  • Digital or Sports Betting & Gaming experience.
  • Prior experience or knowledge with the OneTrust data privacy tool.
  • Interest in IT developments and new technologies. 
  • Strong commercial acumen and excellent legal analytical skills;
  • A desire to learn about the sector and business as we are flexible whether you have privacy experience, its the passion to work in this space that is important to us;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to forge and develop strong working relationships;
  • A desire to build a "best in class" in-house Corporate Legal function; and
  • Strong team working skills and an ability to uphold and drive success and the Legal function's core values.
